Spent today on a photoshoot for Modern Classics magazine at Longcross Test Track near Chobham, Surrey. They're doing an article on V6 coupes of the 90s in their next issue, and needed a Cougar to go with 4 of its contemporaries - I'm actually not allowed to reveal what those 4 others were yet (which annoyingly means I can't post any of the photos I took yet), although if you know your 90s cars they won't be too hard to guess! :)

All in all, a very interesting and fun day consisting of some moderate hooning around the track while they took photos, some "formation flying" for a cover shot (very tricky cos you need eyes on the back and sides of your head), lots of static/detail photography and a quick chat with a journalist from the mag (I did ask him to mention UKCougar.org in the article). Drinks and snacks were provided too, plus they're even paying for the fuel I used!

Negotiating the track was made even more interesting due to having to avoid some McLaren test mules (doing donuts), a McLaren GT3 racecar and a Ferrari 458 which were all using it at the same time!

Not sure yet when the release date for the magazine is - I will update when I know more. Meanwhile, anyone fancy having a guess at the other 4 cars in the feature?

This is brilliant - well done to you for having the honour! May I ask how it came about?

As for the cars, we've got an embarrasment of riches to choose from. I assume we're talking about reasonably affordable ones. I would think we're talking Fiat Coupe, Va*xhall Calibra, Peugeot 406 Coupe, VW Scirocco and you.

Alfa GTV, Toyota Celica are also possibles. Rover Coupe won't have been in the running, I suspect. But like the Murphys, I'm not bitter.

Mrs. W spotted a desperate plea on Facebook on Friday night. Turned out they just hadn't been able to find a decent Cougar - they even went to look at one for sale, but it turned out to be 5 cars deep on a dealer's forecourt and apparently it was in rough condition.

You've guessed 3 of the 4 correctly. Not telling which ones though :)

I chose based on geography - like they wanted cars that were made all over Europe.

If they did have a Rover Coupe there, I would love to know who it was though!

In the OP, Mart stated the article was themed V6 coupes.
Eliminate those which had straight fours and straight sixes (and straight fives-Fiat), bet that doesn't leave many.

If it's V6 late 90s/early 00s coupés, I'm going with Peugeot 406 3.0, Alfa GTV 3.2, VW Corrado 2.9 VR6 and the Mazda MX-6. I'm not sure they ever made the Fiat Coupé with a V6, I've a feeling it was a 4-pot turbo?

I have been buying this magazine since it came out and it's brilliant. Right up my street! Can't wait for the next issue now!

I'd never heard of it before Friday :). They gave me a copy of the latest issue today, and it is a good read. Interesting feature on 90s executive saloons - they're the sort of cars that float my boat, strangely, especially the Senator and Alfa 164.

Btw, between you all, you've correctly guessed all 4. Still not saying which ones though...

Ooh, Alfa 164, I've long held a quiet hankering for one of those (in 3.2 V6 form, naturally). Call it an itch that needs to be scratched.
