new owner needs help

Well done on the pass;
Normally, cloth seats are associated with the 2.0 Zetec, but some V6s had them - cloth were never heated and I don't think motorised, I think leather were always both (as per UK's limited option choice - we got alloy wheels, ABS/disc brakes and Climate (digital air-con) on ALL, whereas US didn't).
Boot CD changer could be had with either cassette or CD head unit - in the facelift (2001) Cougar it was replaced with a in-dash 6-disc changer.
Cruise control always came with the auto box but never with the manual - several have sourced the parts to add it to the manual.
The Ford OEM parking sensors is a quite rare option, though I think some have sourced and added it.

And that's in the tyre, so not really relevant to the car!
I have cloth seats in my v6 and they are motorised.just not heated.

AAH well, had the Cougar on sale now for the last 3 weeks on both AT & ebay............................... not the slighest hint of intrest from anyone. Guess its time to send it to the scrapyard which is a shame but i have no use for it anymore.

With a ticket it should sell, but most likely not a favourable price at present, but certainly better than a breakers yard. As it does seem to be a bad time to sell anything or expect people to pay a fair price for anything at the moment. With so much uncertainty the Cougar being niche and the festive season looming ever nearer. Have been lowballed a lot recently myself. People certainly appear to have cut back. Heck even Wetherspoons is quieter when walk by it 😲.

I wish I had storage - a car lot - I would buy all the Cougars (and maybe extend that to Pumas, Probes, Capris, Thunderbirds) whether viable or scrappers, and have them restored or broken as appropriate.
But unfortunately, I don't :(

thats what i find strange, its just sailed through the mot, drives well & definately not a scrapper, but i,m going to have to scrap it as i have no use for it.

It's the only one on eBay for less than £1k. (y)

Interesting though that all 4 V6's on there at the moment are autos.

If it's that silver one at £999 I'll give you more than scrap value for it and a good home if you can wait a couple of week, maybe see if it sells for your asking price and if not drop me a msg?

Myself and Noel probably familiar with Thetford and I'm sure there's someone in the Dereham area. Thinking legalities, if the seller could drive it to my mechanic's premises in Wisbech I'll get him home, and the buyer can collect from there - beer money for the storage (I might be able to enquire re. neighbour's driveway for it or my car, so effectively stored at mine, near King's Lynn).

I do have the seeds of an alternative idea. I need to confirm with my mechanic whether it would be appropriate to 'store' my Cougar at his (whilst some cosmetic and service issues are attended to) freeing up space on our drive. And if I can get him to start on 1st Nov and finish before 1st Dec I can SORN and uninsure it. But it will need to move on when mine is done.

Hi has anyone any ideas on the following issue please......... Drove the Cougar 160 miles to my sisters house Thursday, few stops on the way,it purred like a big cat should with no issues. Saturday morning loaded it up with a few things ready to do the next 160 miles when i turned the key it would only crank over and not start.
RAC arrived,no warning lights on the dash, plugged it in and no faults,he checked the fuel cut out switch all fine, however he says he couldnt hear the clicking of the fuel pump under the back seat, which i,ve never ever heard myself anyway,so he suspets its a fuel pump problem,as not being a proper mechanic he just wanted to get it recovered which i refused so its at my sisters place at the moment & i will try ringing a few garages near her on Monday, but any help in the meantime would be grateful......... BTW the Cougar has a full Ford service history as when it belonged to my brother he was really anal about only letting the main stealer work on it...................... Thanks.

Sounds like it’s already been diagnosed as a failed fuel pump. Your RAC guy was listening for it, that’s why he went for the crash reset button.
When you jump in the car and turn the key alll the way, except not against the starter motor you should hear a gentle hum kick in for a 10 seconds or so.
I guess Mr RAC didn’t hear it.
On the Cougar the electric pump is in the tank which is under the floor, under the back seat.
There is a hatch under the seat, sadly it in the wrong place to change the pump, but ythe elec connections are accessible so it’s fairly simple to Test for Voltage there.

The right way to change the pump is to drop the tank.
The other way is to enlarge the hole in the floor and do it from above. Lots here have done this ( personally I wouldn’t so maybe I’m a bit like your brother in this)
There plenty of info on pump changing, I guess you could search for it .
A half decent garage would diagnose this fairly easily. I’d guess they could drop the tank and change it in a day too, might need two men on it though. I have dropped my tank ( by myself ) I was in no rush as I was doing other stuff under there. I’ve not changed my pump but they do seem to be of an age where they are dieing now.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info i will be ringing a Ford specialist this morning to see what the problem is, i will post the answer when i have it confirmed................ Cheers
