Hi I'm Rob from Lincoln I am the new owner of forum members munchkinone rikedwards well looked after cougar so you should recognise the car.

I have owned a few fords in the past from xr2's to st220 this being the first cougar that I've sat in and probably seen up close in person, so I didn't do the usual go and view a few take them for test drives etc.

It was a bit of a impulse buy I was looking at Honda cr-v's on eBay when I found the add for the cougar, I like odd lookin cars something that stands out in the car park so thought I would see what the boss thought and was surprised when she said she liked it which doesn't happen to many of the cars I suggest.

So far I've replaced the plugs it looks like the easy to get to plugs had been changed but not the rear, cleaned the idle control valve and replaced the water pump belt, i still have the rest of the service to do and to find out why the abs light is on permanently

And while the weather was good me and the wife washed waxed and gave it a quick hoover

Here's the pics

Hello Rob and welcome to the forum. (y)

Very tidy, but then we wouldn't expect anything else considering the previous owners. ;)

Rikedwards and Munchkinone are lovely people and I know that this car will have been well looked after. But you do need to make her yours and put your stamp on her.

My girl - Tiger - was well maintained by her ex but still needed some things. It's not that she was neglected, but more that she was new to me and I needed to make her mine.

I hope you can do the same and get on well with her.

Welcome Rob, I'm a relative newcomer myself and you are not too far away from me in Gt Yarmouth compared to some. My wife approved of mine too, so much so she just handed the money over for me to buy it ! She also likes to drive it too, but seems to be waiting for me to finish it ? When I went to buy mine, it was with the understanding that there might be brake issues, but I found that FORSCan can initiate the ABS selftest and return any fault codes to aid diagnosis. Makes lots of funny noises while testing too. I hope you get sorted easily...

welcome aboard (y)
ABS light could be a few things, when mine did that it meant changing the ABS control unit but hope you don't have to do that !
My wife likes the sound of the cougar but isn't so keen on being in it, she thinks it's bit too firm a ride LOL

I have that same problem. I got Jane which has adjustable struts(Set to firm). With coil overs ( which remove any bounce the suspension still had). Hitting a pothole is something similar to driving off a cliff. But she does take off like no ones business lol.

Hi thanks for the warm welcome and advice I've no replied sooner as the last few days have been busy tinkering with the new car.

Mostly been looking over the engine checking fluids etc and degreasing pulley side of the engine as I was covered in old sludgy oil.

Also taken all wheels off and checking over the brakes to make sure there is nothing nasty that needs fixing straight away, while I was in the driver's wheel arch I took all the plastics off and gave it a quick clean and ground a small area of surface rust back to good metal slapped some rust killer on followed by some etch primer and a bit of black paint so should be good till summer when I can take the strut out and wing off and re spray the inner arch

So far all i need to do is fit the exhaust Flexi which is blowing and replace the two front tyres that are down to the cord's on the inner edge.

I've also ordered forscan adapter so will finally be able to get rid of the abs light.

Working on the car isnt a good reason. I take you guys with me on the phone and update as I work. [emoji16] although in my case unless you travel about 4k miles thats the closest we're getting to working on my car together. And is probably about the only way most here will ever see it.

Which Forscan adapter did you get?

That crud in the bottom of the wings will be rotting out the front of the outer sills, not just the wings.

This clearly isn't your first rodeo and you know you need to get it out of there as quickly as possible. But to do that, you will need to remove the bottom bolt - and it's not coming out without a fight. Hope you're comfortable with the drill...
