All credit for this goes to Anthony Grishman.

I'm sure we are all aware that right now, there seems to be a glut of spares for our cars, mainly due to so many breakers both here and online.
Ford don't produce cougar specific parts anymore, or very few at least.
This means that in the very near future, hardcore cougar owners are going to be exceptionally hard pressed to find panels ie: wings, door skins, bonnet etc.
Now this is where Anthony may have struck i minor gold mine. To make it easier, i have copy/pasted the email which Anthony received in reply to his enquiry.

Hi Anthony

I am not aware of anyone making panels for the Ford Cougar and I can confirm we do not manufacture panels for this model . I am not sure why others do not make these panels and I can only speculate that the demand does not warrant the cost of tooling up. We however manufacture panels in a different way and our out laying costs are in templates not tooling ,which is much less meaning we are able to offer low volume panels.

However we would need something to copy , if yourself or your club spares secretary can supply panels to copy , we would gladly quote on a price to manufacture the panels for you.

I feel I should also make you aware that due to our current workload we quote a waiting time of 6-8 weeks and a new job requiring templates would be 8-10 weeks.

Kind regards

Gordon

Obviously we don't have an official "Spares secretary" (SI!) but panels in good condition are needed as donations to get this off the ground.

Respond please:

This might be worth as a club just finding a complete car very cheap and just delivering the car to this place to make all the parts needed.
Thoughts ?

when i found these guys they seem to be keen and no messing about! i hope it turns out ok as i did alot of emails and this company got back to me and i liked the idea that they will do a copy pattern from an old part rather than tooling up which goes sky high on costs so its a good bet for the long term.

and really most of us love these old cars right??

emai reply from the sales dept:

Hello Alan

The enquiry we received for replacement panels for the Ford Cougar, hadn’t got any further than us stating that we do not manufacture the panels. But we would be prepared to quote on remanufacturing if we were supplied with panels to copy.

Kind regards

Gordon

If this is going any further at all, we will need panels transporting to the depot before we can get an estimate of costs etc.

Feasability and willingness as well as ability to physically move the parts to the repro company volunteers gratefully accepted.

This could possibly be the most long term beneficial cougarforce this club ever does for these cars, or it could well be the greatest failure?

Not being in possession of any panels there's not a lot I can do with regards to the initial supply, but happy to help with any CougarForce requirements!

If this is going to work we need an action plan, I know the guys on SCC visit here but I think a post over there can't hurt can it?

what panels do we have - or do we have a complete car from Rik/Sam?
where do they need to go - Rotherham or Warwick?
how do we get them there?
beyond getting them a car/panels will there be an initial outlay to Radford Panels?

reading the email i got i would say no ..example However we would need something to copy , if yourself or your club spares secretary can supply panels to copy , we would gladly quote on a price to manufacture the panels for you.

initial outlay would only come into force depending on how much is made ect, but at this stage they need body parts to look at and how they will make them, purley as the man siad they dont do tooling up it just costs way to much and for us it would be completley pointless but this way is much more affordable one we get something moving as in wheel arches and sills which will be the main thing to start, alans had to do a transplant as it is but if..we get these brand spanking new and galved its a winner!
what about all the guys at bolton maf? we have loads of guys on here can we not convey this thread to them or have they seen it already.

also i see new owners cropping a bit latley.

another example if the club and all of the members can do a vote and are long time and are not going to part with their cat would pay into a pot from all of us a small donation( nothing huge a fiver of something) to enable some parts done so we can ensure that, the work is good, fits, and then we have secured body parts for the club, as have other clubs around the world that i have read about.

also i should point out 8 to ten weeks takes us well into summer!

I will help where i can

I have 2 front wings that have just been removed

I have one that you can have gratis if it will help

Following on from Steves post above, is it possible to get some of these parts to a central point on the map and in a position fairly local to Warwick. This is where cougarforce can really come into it's own and benefit every one of us who might intend keeping these cars for the forseeable future and a greater benefit for future owners. It would be a nice legacy imo to think we had something to do with extending the life of these cars when they eventually become expensive classics . I will go so far as volunteering to take some stuff down there myself after my return from scotfest.

There will come a time in the not too distant future when we won't be able to replace our rusty cars with a less rusty one for mere pennies, and the supply of the mass of spares available will dry up as cougar after cougar ends up in the crusher. Remember the Capri? Cortina? etc etc etc.......
