that's because the gearboxes failed and its cheaper to buy a new car than have the gearbox rebuiltYes 440 is very low, about 98 were auto i think so with a split of silver black and green must be quite a job finding one in the colour, spec you want, i heard only 48 auto spec c2`s were left.

LOL - you jest. The CD4 has its problems, but I know that you know the reason for the low number of autos was that at the time, they simply weren't very popular. And nor were bigger V6 engines, which were the only version of the UK Coug that got them. Someone with a V6 was a driver, and didn't want all that all that auto nonsense.
Now we've got ridiculously powerful 2.0 4-bangers attached to 7-speed DSG boxes that can outrun us. Technology changes, so we probably need to see our cars through that lens. T's Leon FR utterly destroyed a W-plate 328 the other day. He was actually angry and cut us up when we had to slow down for traffic.
I'm happy to be quick, but I don't expect to be the fastest thing on the road when it comes down to figures. Not anymore.
What has always amazed me is that in the States they offered a 2.0 Zetec with auto transmission on 15" steel wheels. Poverty spec. It must've been simply horrible.
That's why I am collecting spares and refurbing themYes that might be true to some extent, it would cost more to fix an auto but manual gear boxes are not imune to problems either and lets face it all cougars are throw away items, run them till they break then scrap them, as we find with a lot of them these days.

Yes a good idea, doing the same on a small scale, bigger shed needed to store bigger items
