numbers

OK thanks, so that's total C2 production, and only 440 or so found there way to these shores?
Yes, built in USA and assembled in Germany for European spec., cheers for info re Wiki

Yes 440 is very low, about 98 were auto i think so with a split of silver black and green must be quite a job finding one in the colour, spec you want, i heard only 48 auto spec c2`s were left.

that's because the gearboxes failed and its cheaper to buy a new car than have the gearbox rebuilt

LOL - you jest. The CD4 has its problems, but I know that you know the reason for the low number of autos was that at the time, they simply weren't very popular. And nor were bigger V6 engines, which were the only version of the UK Coug that got them. Someone with a V6 was a driver, and didn't want all that all that auto nonsense.

Now we've got ridiculously powerful 2.0 4-bangers attached to 7-speed DSG boxes that can outrun us. Technology changes, so we probably need to see our cars through that lens. T's Leon FR utterly destroyed a W-plate 328 the other day. He was actually angry and cut us up when we had to slow down for traffic.

I'm happy to be quick, but I don't expect to be the fastest thing on the road when it comes down to figures. Not anymore.

What has always amazed me is that in the States they offered a 2.0 Zetec with auto transmission on 15" steel wheels. Poverty spec. It must've been simply horrible.

Yes that might be true to some extent, it would cost more to fix an auto but manual gear boxes are not imune to problems either and lets face it all cougars are throw away items, run them till they break then scrap them, as we find with a lot of them these days.

Only thing that bothers me about low numbers of auto c2`s is there are less of them in the breakers to plunder parts from, as far as being drivers cars well i class my self as a driver, just got fed up with holding a clutch down in modern traffic conditions which is why the modern auto box is on the rise, the only sad point i find is cars are getting faster, now we have cars with well over 500bhp with ultra quick stopping brakes, fat tires, fantastic road holding running on roads that are choked with traffic and low speed limits, its all getting a bit siliy to say the least, might not be the fastest thing on the road but then again on most roads nothing else is either
