Pid_16V 'Uncle Al'.

This is extremely sad news. As one of the newer members, to someone I didn't really know, someone I've never met, I still feel a real sense of loss about this news - that shows just how much of a big part to the forum Al was. He was so helpful and I always enjoyed reading his posts, a big loss for sure

Elaine and I have been very busy, but more than that, I think I was fearful of what I might find. My worst fears now realised.

However, we count ourselves lucky to have met up with Al and Vonny during their last holday here in Great Yarmouth. I remember we spent the afternoon in their company on the 'Golden Mile' amidst ice creams, cups of tea and anticipation for the East Coast Truckers charity parade. There was much talk of cougars and even when it was time to say goodbye, we spent another hour tranferring spare parts from his stunning frosty and sharing more wit and wisdom. That's the way we will remember them.....

Al was awesome. Severely going to be missed. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to meet him or Vonny.
I do know no matter how crazy an idea I came up with Al always seemed genuinely interested in seeing if I actually managed to pull it off. It definitely made this place more welcoming. I will definitely miss having Al around. Rest in peace my friend.

That's the way they were. Hospitality that knew no bounds, conversation that could go into the wee small hours and you wouldn't even notice the time going by.

We might've had our misunderstandings online from time to time, but I hold fond memories (of both of them) chatting in the dark at Combe, 'Fest, and other events.

Things are going to be very different now.

I've been away from ukcougar.com for a long time, but when I saw this terrible news an Facebook I had to come back to pay my respects to such a great man and wonderful friend. As so many people have already said, Al had a heart of gold, and was always there for me, and little Dan (now 25 with long hair and a beard!), through the hard times we were going through. Al was great company at Cougarfest, Castle Coombe, Harewood etc - and all the many MFSMs that we attended together, sharing his impressive knowledge of cougars and T Rex.

GG/Phoenix would not have been the same without him - from the rear infill to the gold UKC side stripes and sun strip, and ending up getting an award at Tatton Park.

Dan and I were heartbroken to hear the news. Condolences to the family. Rest in peace my friend, and I truly hope that you are now re-united with Vonny and Lisa. 🙏

It brought me to tears hearing this. Al was one of the "old guard" someone who taught me the joys of doing work on cars yourself and the fun that could be had. Selfless, calm and collected guy that would never have a bad word to say about anyone. It's was an honour to have known him and to call him a friend. The planet has lost a star today. RIP uncle Al x

I was privileged to be in Als company just once but he was so enthusiastic about his love of Cougars and of everyone who owned one you just couldn't forget how impressionable he was. He was and is Mr UKC may all your dreams be granted and all the clouds in the sky be Silver Foxes.
RIP Uncle Al We all loved you!!!!

It's been a good few years since i touched base here, I know I've been slack, I have been sitting here for over an hour trying to think what to say, i read of his passing on Facebook, Cat and I are heartbroken to hear of Al's passing and everything I felt about Al has already been said by some very touching previous posts, he was a true gent, the first to help me when i joined UKCougar back in 2008.
I have some great memories of Al from changing my door in the freezing cold and rain at Badminton while he was so calm and collected, to crying laughing when John ripped his trousers at Combe, drinking beer and talking to the early hours in the hall gluing my door cards together while others slept.
He will be sadly missed, and now together again with Vonny and Lisa...
Sleep well my friend.

So saddened to hear of Al’s passing. I was only at his house 3 weeks ago dropping off parts, it just seems so unreal.

He hosted the first MFSM I attended with Vonny’s never ending supply of tea and butties.

The universe has gained another star.

I don't get on here much these days but to log on this morning and see this devastating news has truly saddened me . Alan was everything you could want , a true gent with old school values and would help anyone with anything.
RIP Alan and thankyou for all you did to make this club the escape from life we all needed

I can only echo the rest of the comments on this thread, really sad news.
One of my fondest memories of Al is sitting around at fest one evening, a few beers being downed and Al entertaining us with stories of his youth, great fun evening.
RIP Uncle Al, you'll be greatly missed.

Hi guys

Our family have all been totally shocked by this terribly sad news, I've lurked here for a couple of days reading throught the above and just thinking what to say.

I last spoke to him a few weeks ago, mostly about Vonnie and it was clear he was really struggling and desperately needed the surgery he'd waited so long for.

So many memories of Alan and Vonnie over the years, the various meets, crawling wround the Pidcave, the many swapmeets, memorably when we all descended on Pid Towers and helped him switch from XAV to the Doppelganger, washed down with copious brews and butties from Vonnie and of course her famous stew.

I learnt a lot from him over the years and that will always stick with me, as will his passion for all things Cougar.
Alan, have a long overdue hug with Vonnie and Lisa, we'll miss you.

Somebody stop slicing those onions
