Just to add to Quiksilver's comprehensive post, there were some cars in the UK that you might unofficially call a "Cougar 1.5"
Mostly C1 specification including the headlights, but had things like the later engine, EGR delete, larger LIM ports... Basically it was as though Ford were setting up for the ST200 but never quite got there. My "Sally" is one of those.
Of course, I don't know what Ford Europe had planned but, either way, you have a pretty kitty there in a lovely colour and very, very tidy.

Thank you! She is definitely a delight to see and drive...hopefully I can keep her in this condition even though she's parked outside. It's fascinating to read about the history and development that a particular model has gone through and now I'm invested in getting to know more about these cars...
Ah yeah don't believe the 'how many sold' websites lol it depended on which Ford womble was registering vehicles that day as to what they were registered as, most of them were registered correctly but there are a few oddballs which got through, and more than usual lol
Important to note, back when these cars were made, "Duratec" meant a very specific model of engine - a 2.5 or 3 litre V6.. It was built by Porsche and had Cosworth-engineered heads. We have the original one here in my local museum.
The Duratec name eventually became a trim level, just like the Zetec did, meaning that these days it doesn't mean the same thing.
There were two different Duratecs installed in these ladies, described by capacity. But there were several other variations, depending on how you look at it. Lower inlet manifolds, EGR systems (or not), looms, camchain cover...
That is correct. The 2.5 V6 in the Cougar is a Duratec engine.
