I love this thread. It's really bringing the anoraks out. We need close up photos from Wil. I've zoomed the ebay piccies but they just pixelate.
So, from info kindly provided by the person who owned the car 'from new'.....
It was a Cougar that was destined for Australia and ended up in UK via Germany.
As Andy says it has some interesting 'differences' from a standard UK model, clocks, oil filler cap etc..
The exhaust, badges, spolier, etc were specially ordered and fitted after purchcase.
It is indeed a rare and fascinating Cougar, and I look forward to sharing it with the Club,
cheers,
Wil
I've taken a leaf out of Paul's (procomm) book and contacted Ford directly on the subject of what was actually done in Germany.
I emailed customer services in Koln and I'll post the email reply I had when I can get on my PC.
According to their Ford Expert the cars both LHD and RHD were completed at Flat Rock.
The gist of his quote is: 'all modifications were made before the cars left Flat Rock'.
Why would Ford ship components made in the U.S. and Mexico to Germany to put into vehicles they'd already sent down a production line?
The only thing I can think of that was probably fitted here were the headunits which were made in Portugal. The U.S. ones were made in Mexico.
Anyone would think they actually cared!
I'm glad you provided a translation Andy I don't think my schoolboy German was up to that![]()
there were 4 guys on NECO, if memory serves me correctly there was one guy who worked middle management and had a Cougar as a company car when they were released, the other 3 worked on the line, they were a mass of information back in the early daysAll this leads to an interesting question: Just how much of the finishing of these cars was done in Germany?
I was always under the impression that clocks, centre console controls, lights and glass were all installed there. Looks like that might not be true.
I'd love to talk with someone who worked at Flat Rock.
IIRC Terry Hains was a Duratec V6 expert.there were 4 guys on NECO, if memory serves me correctly there was one guy who worked middle management and had a Cougar as a company car when they were released, the other 3 worked on the line, they were a mass of information back in the early days [emoji106] I can't recall names though![]()
