Red C2 on Ebay

was thinking about but didn't see the post till 3am, thought that wil would have bagged it anyway, if not i would have gone for it, but ad has been taken down now, hopefully someone who will look after it got it and not thrashed and crashed by a numpty

I'm pleased to announce there is now a Laser Red C2 in the Club!

Long saga but in the end I managed to buy it.

Many thanks to all for letting me know about this.

Just got to get it back here, will be next week now.

I think it's a really interesting Cougar, maybe special import etc.
Any info/thoughts most welcome,

cheers,

Wil:)

Well done Wil. (y)

My guess is that it was a special factory order for someone in Ford management; it will be interesting to see who the 'one' owner is named as on the V5 when you get it back from DVLA.

Thanks, it's been a long quest to find the Holy Grail of Cougars!

Hopefully in due course I will be able to contact the owner and get some more info

Well done on giving it a safe home Will. I did consider buying it myself but couldn't justify a third car.

The previous owner did make a brief appearance on here many years ago. I can't remember the name though. I'm sure it used to have USA centre caps for those C2 wheels too.

I must admit I had thought that way too Peter:)

Yes indeed. If I had bought it and even though I am crazy mad about changing cars from standard I would be putting this example back to standard, even down to the fried eggs. I have only ever seen one other red one in this country. This is a super rare car indeed.

You have a good memory!
I will try and contact previous owner when I get details.
He sold it direct to the dealer I bought it from.

It must be such a scarce car, maybe the only Laser Red C2VX left in UK.
It is also a very late UK registration date 19/11/2002
Would be interesting to check manufacture date,
there is a site for this but forgotten which one!

I could. But i'm not allowed (the space to park) two cars so it would be my daily...which would be nice but possibly a waste.

The MOT history is revealing - every one since 2005 a pass no adviseries, so the one owner was either mechanic/engineer and very thorough, or well enough off to have employed one.

(Edit: Just re-read and in 2011 it had this:)

It doesn't show up under that registration on FordEtis, anyone prepared to enquire the VIN and try that?

Wil, on the link in nvingo's post it shows the first reg. date as being in Sept '02 and, as he says, the reg. no. doesn't show on the Ford ETIS site which would also give the date of manufacture. You might have more luck with ETIS when you have access to the VIN number.

........or let Manos look it up for you. :)

Well I had put the VRM into fordetis but it wasn't found. Typically this would be because the VRM displayed is not the first one it had (that Ford would have associated it with when first sold) which may mean it was brought across from Australia or New Zealand, or (speculation) bought from USA and converted to RHD using UK stock parts or leftovers in the German factory.
Put the VIN into fordetis should clarify.
Well done on the acquisition, i'm just a little gutted it isn't coming to me.

It most likely is not a special order or anything so exotic as an import etc. There were a number of Laser Red cars that ended up in Europe to be converted to RHD for UK sales. They were converted and then realised as non allocated colours but sold anyway. I was working for Ford in 2003/2004. There were quite a few sold up North in particular. I once saw 3 sat in a breakers yard in Wakefield some years ago.

Good score on the car Wil. I hope it's as awesome in the flesh as it is in the pics. The car is standard spec for its allocation. The grilles etc were not swapped on the red ones because they weren't scheduled for the full image change. Any RHD ones were supposed to end up in Australia and SA. The ones that ended up here were cheaper to sell on than re-ship elsewhere in the world. They were already so highly priced here that roping more cost into them was not beneficial.

The one that is rarer than this one is the RHD, Laser Red C1, 2.0 Zetec Auto with the 15" propellor blade alloys and rear drum brakes. That's perhaps THE rarest combination ever to hit these shores. The Zetec laser red C2 is still about somewhere too I'm sure.

Many thanks for info
I look forward to learning more about this special Cougar.
Right now I am so chuffed that it has been 'saved', it may have a few 'issues' that need sorting and I know this is the right place to be with help on that.
Just got to get it safely back here soon !

They should have had the grilles and badges swapped if they were destined for Australia where they were sold as Ford's???

Those that successfully made their country allocation did. Those that were converted without allocation didn't. Clear enough???
