That doesn't sound like bottom end to me. Mani check the following. Water pump, drive belt pulleys and everything connected to it. It sounds chainy to me. Bottom end sounds like this

I thought can chains but seems to be wrong side of engine that the noise is coming from certainly doesn't sound like bottom end from the video, I have had chains and bottom end go in a V6 on two separate engines and it sounds a lot more like the chains than the bottom end. Noise seems to be worse on near side of engine though.

Definitely not bottom end, either a chain or a ball bearing breaking down, could be water pump metal disc loose

Take the auxiliary drive belt off and run it again to see if the noise is still there, that will eliminate bearings on the drivers side of the engine, and report back

That's not bottom end. Try and check the starter motor too, sounds like its not disengaging. That's exactly how the starter on my van sounded when it went.

Have spoken to Mani today and he's a little happier knowing that it's not as dire a situation as he was first led to believe. He may just need a hand with getting the starter off and he also wants to change the water pump whilst that side of the engine is being pulled apart. Hopefully, he'll be mobile and grinning from ear to ear again in no time :)

When its running whack the starter motor with a bar or small hammer this should hopefully free the bendix and allow it to return to its original position so you can drive it to someone's house to strip the bits out to fix and change them

Lol. had that a few times with the old Capri, but this sounds more like the aux idler bearing to me. Hard to tell though with video. I'd go for the aux belt end of the engine and doubt the starter. Sounds a bit too gritty for the starter motor. Either way, it's definately not bottom end. We'll soon have you up and grinning again Mani

Use a 3/8 breaker bar and slip the main belt then spin the alty and idler bearing to rule that one out mate and you can do the same with the water pump and idler bearing

Oh and just in case please do the above when the engine is NOT running

The noise is coming from the gearbox side of the engine at the back he said. That would confirm the starter. When the one on my van went I thought it'd snapped the cambelt and I was hearing the engine disintegrate.
