Shortshift...........yuk

Can't say I noticed the colour, have a look in the morning light and let you know. And I have to check if it has to lift as well, don't laugh I should know but only got it yesterday and didn't do much reversing.

The gearstick in my other one doesn't have to be lifted, I know that much.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing, but...

I had a short-shifter fitted to Mako courtesy of Mikey. It was absolutely amazing, but it was difficult to live with day-by-day. It made the shift very notchy, which didn't really fit with her character. Tiger has the standard shifter and I think she's going to keep it.

Agreed. I prefer a nice easy action:LOL:

I think I've been somewhat spoilt by the Audi's 'snikkety-snick' gear shift, it has a relatively short throw and you feel it come up against a rock solid stop, accompanied by a rather satisfying muted 'click' when you pull it back into 2nd or 4th.

I'm weird.

I actually agree with you - a gearshift that snicks in with no bother is a great thing. The problem is that the short-shift gave Mako a similar shift style as Kate.

And that won't make sense out of context.

Basically, I loved the rapidity of the shift. It was amazing how fast you could switch gears. But I own a car (an NB/MX5 called 'Kate') that switches gears fast because it's supposed to. A Cougar is fun, but it isn't supposed to behave like a little sports car. It's cool that you can get it to do that sort of thing, but it's not nice to live with.

In any case, Mako still has the short-shift installed. I will never know now of course, but I hope she's okay and doing her job.

My old Cougar had a short-shifter which looked good but which was just too far of a reach into 1st and 3rd to be really comfortable. I have long legs, so the seat's pushed way back.
I intended to swap it over to my new one, but the stock shifter is just so-ooooooo much more comfortable to use, I kept it...

But I understand how Arkady feels. And it seems you have to lift it to go into reverse, either way I don't like it. Anyway, the stick itself is silver!
