The presentation took place this morning, with these words:
"Of course many of you will know me, but because UKCougar.com is a thriving and growing club, there will those here I have barely met, so let me introduce myself. I am the partner of Chris Adams, the energetic events organiser who tragically died at the beginning of the year.
The attendance of so many members at Chris's funeral showed both the respect he earned, and also what a wonderful supportive group of people make up this club. Both of those points were further emphasised by the decision of members to contribute towards an award, the Chris Adams award, in his memory.
At this point we must thank Al, pid16v, for the work he put into selecting and commissioning what many have commented upon is a most appropriate and fitting trophy, the lines of which evoke the V of the Cougar's bonnet. Thank you Al.
Chris will be remembered for his dedication to the club and his friendly, infectious enthusiasm. Many tributes were paid to him early this year, and remain in the forum for all to read, so it is not necessary to add to those now. Instead we are here to see Chris's spirit carry on in a number of individuals who continue to put time and effort into the activities which keep the club and forum going to the benefit, both collectively and individually, of other members .
Nominations were opened in July, and all subscribers to the ukcougar.com forum were able to vote for any subscriber of the forum they felt deserved the award. It is a measure of how much different members do contribute, that 11 names received votes. Until earlier this week, only JJ – Jason – knew the winner; he then shared that information with just Rik and me, which means I can tell you this:
The winner of the award is someone who has energetically participated in every facet of the forum and of club activities.
He has contributed a great deal towards different areas of the forum. His skills as a moderator are well respected. Should discussions get heated, he is someone who shines more light than heat on the debate. He knows the Cougar inside out and he shares that knowledge generously in the technical sections, providing practical advice which has spared many members hours of work and expenditure.
He has been a regular and keen attendee at events for several years, invariably helping construct the gazebo before getting stuck into some minor Cougar modification which another member wants help with, often while his other half is busy with the catering.
But it is not only the minor modifications which the winner of this award assists other with. He has most generously provided assistance at his own home with much larger projects which have on a number of occasions involved accommodating others overnight when his boundless capacity to help has exceeded what can be done in one day. His work in this area alone would have justified his winning of the award for the number of others he has helped.
It does not end there. He's an active Cougarforce carrier, helping get Cougar bits and pieces around the country between members for free. In fact I believe he is this very day involved in such an exercise.
I could go on, but by now I think many will have guessed who the most deserving winner of the award is. As he is one of the first people Chris Adams spoke to in the club – not surprisingly to get some advice from – someone Chris was proud to call perhaps his closest friend in the club, Chris would have been delighted that this very first award of the trophy is going to pid16v, Alan Pidduck."
