Time to show what I have been up to with the Cat.

Take care with that drop Peter, i already know three current members with similar front lips who have come to grief with a 25-30mm drop.

Yeah I know what you mean Alan, but it seems that the Eibach springs are about the least drop of them all that are available for the cat + they are not to harsh as well.

YEs the eibachs are ok, and just the right hieght imo. It's a pity these kits arent available in the same stuff as the roush kits.

Yes I do agree, the kits are crap TBH but there is not much choice out there for our cars. It is a shame as I really do like my kit alot, I just don't like the quality of it at all.

How well do you think your front spoiler will fare if you lower the car Pete? Chris(Warthog) went back to standard springs on his, as he kept hitting the spoiler on speed humps, although I believe there are alot around where he lives.
Going back to standard springs my bumper is 117 mm off the ground at the very front, still catches speed humps and keeps me out of multi-storey car parks. Part of the problem is that it is at that low height at the very front - a good distance from the front axle

Cheers for this info. I will get the tape measure out and see what mine is.

Being the beneficiary of aforementioned springs off Chris's cat (y) & having a similar front splitter to you , I tend to find as long as I drive really slowly over humps & up ramps, it's ok. It's when you go a little too quick & the front comes down quickly, bouncing on the springs, that you get the probs.

Our kit is not great quality I have to agree, it splits, cracks & splinters without too much force, making driving it over obstacles on lowered suspension, similar to how porcupines get it on............ very slowly & carefully!:)

I must admit, I slow down to less than walking pace to go speed humps even with standard suspension and no kit. Over cautious perhaps, but I see the speed some people drive over them and think that it can't possibly be doing any favours for the longevity of their suspension compopnents.

Well if that is the case then I will be fine. I always drive like that anyhow + the only times my front splitter has had damage done to it, both times were not my fault. I think I will go ahead with this for sure but I am unsure which mods I will do first.

One word of advice Peter, Iain/mofo had a decat done at MIJ & later when he decided to go for the ST200 upgrades, had to ditch the decat in favour of a sports cat, so if ST200 engine upgrades are a part of your plans for the future, I'd recommend the sports cat over the decat to save wasting your money.

I have to admit the lowering made a big difference to cornering at speed & massively improves the stance of the car IMO, but if you continue running on those really low profile tyres, the ride will probably shake your spleen apart:)............if you go lower, personally I'd recommend 45's to reduce the harshness of the ride.(y)

I have already got all the ST200 upgrades apart from the ECU and I left the green injectors out. Why would a sports cat be better than a decat pipe ?

As for tyres, I am running 40's and they seem fine. I did have 35's but they were brutal, the handling was great but I am not after world class handling, just a nice balance between the two.

I think that was because he didn't have the precats anymore though so needed the sportscat for emissions reasons (y)

Ah right I see. I have seen a few people on the forum who have removed both precats and main cat and still got the car to pass the MOT. I know it is a fail if you do not have a cat on your car and the mot tester picks you up on this.
So in real terms I will have to get a sports cat then, so my next question is do they make much difference ?

The sports cat has a large spiral chamber to help with a faster emission of waste gasses, therefore gives you more oomph over a standard cat, especially when run in conjunction with a performance exhaust set up, which you already have. It should also improve your mpg slightly, due to the more efficient way it performs.
Although the sports cat is a bit dearer than a decat (MIJ do excellent deals for our club & may be worth contacting for a reasonably priced s/s sports cat), in terms of performance gains, the difference between a sports cat & decat is negligible (perhaps a coupla bhp at best).............apart from the sports cat keeps you nice & legal, improves mileage & should last a lifetime.(y)

Cheers for your helpfull reply. I have contacted Longlife exhausts and I am going to get a price for a sports cat from them, then I will see what MIJ will charge and decide what option is the best one for me. What kind of price am I looking at for one BTW ?
