Time to show what I have been up to with the Cat.

I was trying to organise a group buy, but didn't have anything close to the success Mark had.

I simply have not achieved the numbers to go ahead.

The best thing you can do is follow the advice above....they will do you a good price.

The sports cat has a large spiral chamber to help with a faster emission of waste gasses, therefore gives you more oomph over a standard cat, especially when run in conjunction with a performance exhaust set up, which you already have. It should also improve your mpg slightly, due to the more efficient way it performs.
Although the sports cat is a bit dearer than a decat (MIJ do excellent deals for our club & may be worth contacting for a reasonably priced s/s sports cat), in terms of performance gains, the difference between a sports cat & decat is negligible (perhaps a coupla bhp at best).............apart from the sports cat keeps you nice & legal, improves mileage & should last a lifetime.(y)

My MIJ sports cat made no noticeable difference to my MPG.
It's not stainless steel, maybe a decent mild steel grade. It may last well but I doubt a lifetime.

The car did feel a tiny bit more responsive with the sports cat but my main reason for buying it was because I had some MSDS headers ready and waiting. I've since had the full ST200 conversion with the MSDS headers fitted at the same time so I think the sports cat is working better combined with those mods.
But don't go thinking a sports cat alone will transform the car because it won't.

Ah, my understanding was that it is made of s/s & carries lifetime warranty, same as the exhaust.......apologies if I have that wrong.(y)

I spoke with Al/Pid after he had his sports cat fitted & he thought he noticed a slight improvement on MPG, as did I, except when I cane it lol!:)

I have to deffo agree with 'don't go thinking a sports cat alone will transform the car because it won't', but then again, with Peter's mods already installed, it may not transform the performance of his car, but should give an improvement.:)

My reason why I was going to go for a sports cat is my cat on the car is begining to rattle inside and I think it is the reason my MOT readings were so high this year. I think it is going to fail next year so I may as well replace it with a sports cat. I did not know the MIJ cat was not stainless, I will see what Longlife come up with then and post up any info I get off them.

I am not looking for massive gains TBH, I think the headers and y-pipe will do a better job of that. My goal with all this done + a remap is 200BHP. I think I should see this figure with any luck and having a sports cat might help it along by 2-3 bhp maybe.

Spot on Peter, your expectations are realistic & with what you already have + what you are planning, you should achieve, or get very close to your goal IMO.(y)

This is what is says on the MIJ site about their sports cat :
Catalytic Converters

We offer standard replacement catalytic converters for all vehicles, whether it is a single or twin catalyst setup. We also specialise in hi-flow sports cats for the ultimate aftermarket upgrade. All catalysts are manufactured using the highest quality material including high-grade T316 welding.
Hi-Flow Sports Catalysts: MIJ hi-flow sports cats are 100-200 cpsi as apposed to 400-600 cpsi which a standard (OEM) Cat consists of. Standard (OEM) catalytic converters are restrictive in their flow. The typical flow rate of a standard catalytic converter is around 55-65% whereas our hi-flow sports cats have a flow rate of 75-85%, thus reducing back pressure substantially and increasing performance, especially on turbocharged engines. Emission levels are maintained at legal limits by careful selection of the volume of the metallic substrate. However, they are designed to work specifically in conjunction with other MIJ Performance products and should not be used on their own (with an OEM exhaust system) or with other manufacturers' exhaust systems. We do not guarantee full performance potential when fitted with an alternative to our exhaust system.

Looks like Manos is correct about it not being s/s.(y)

Yes I think I will get to my goal with any luck. And thanks for the info about the cat. Very interesting stuff and by the sounds of it well worth doing with the headers.

What a load of old twat, the expectations are a fallacy, you'll be very lucky to hit 190bhp and what the torque figures? As for an SS cat, what is the point of that? A mild steel one will generally outlast the innards of itself so why pay extra for a SS one? It's not like you can renew the monolith. Look at the spec for an st200, maybe you'll wake up and smell the coffee and realise that the injectors, cams and st200 ecu had something to do with the extra gains.
Sorry Peter but you can't just bolt on a few bits and get 25% power gains, it doesn't work like that, and for anybody to tell you different is not right.

Peter, your Coug is looking great matey, as it was the last time I saw it. Because of the bodykit and the paintwork, it looks so much bigger than my Coug. My car looked tiny when it was parked next to yours at the pub (although I know Black can make a car look smaller than it is).

As for MPG difference with a Sports Cat - well, after removing my mid box and also already having the Sports Cat on mine, my MPG (on a run) has increased from 31.7mpg to 34.6mpg. Not huge figures but it has made a small difference.

I understand what you are saying and I do agree with what you are saying but with the bits I have got + what I got planned ( Headers + Y-pipe ) and the remap I am hoping to see 200 BHP. I think I can get that out of the upgrades I have done.
I know the cams, flywheel, injectors and ECU make a difference as well but if I had all those and the cylinders + pistons then I would expect to see more like 250 BHP as it would be a St200 engine then.
I think a 32BHP increase on a standard engine is not out of the question with the mods I will have inplace. That works out to about a 19% power increase on standard. Time will tell and we will see what happens but who knows lol !!!

I'd be very surprised at that mate, to be honest. There's a couple of people in the club who have transplanted complete ST200 engines and then breathed on them. I'm sure if anyone had made 250 BHP, or even anywhere near it, we'd have heard about it by now. The only one I've heard of making more than 205-210 BHP was Shagmonkey's Thundercat which put out around 350 BHP.... with the aid of a socking great supercharger.

That said, good luck and let us know how you go on.

Aye, I'm quite excited about that on his behalf! I'm booked in at Mafia HQ for some work next month so I'm hoping to get a peek while I'm there.

I am sure I heard some of the Mondeo boys had managed it but I could be wrong. Well as long as I get to 200 BHP then I will be happy.

The only way you'll see 250 on one of these engines is with a 3.0 block and a **** load of supporting modifications IMO. And that'll be at the hub.

Well the desired 250bhp figure for Mofo's car has been quoted by none other than the Don himself - a mechanical magician and if he's proven wrong I'd be very surprised
