Virus Warning on NECO

Well I am on my laptop right now because I have managed to pick up a virus off the NECO site that has managed to wipe my desktop computers hard drive in under 3 minutes.
I was viewing a thread in the for sale section about turbo charged parts for the V6 enigine.
He has quite a few pictures of the parts for sale. I clicked on the first picture and all was fine, but when I went to view the 2nd one I got all sorts of stuff popping up and my anitvirus went nuts. I tried to shut the various programs down but they just kept coming back. It then told me to scan my computer and gave me options to fix the various problem. Now I know that this was a virus program. By the time I had managed to get my anitvirus doing its own scan everything has gone from my desktop and start menu.
So what ever you do, do not click on this guys pictures in his for sale thread.
I think I might have also lost all my family pictures due to my external harddrive being plugged into my computer when all this happened.
I will know more once I have finished reinstalling windows back onto my desktop computer and I can plug it back into my computer.

Sounds like a virus I've seen before which turns all docs, pics, favs etc within your user profile into hidden files so hang fire before reformatting and reinstalling the OS.
 
That's good but you'll lose your favourites any thing else in your profile.
This virus usually only affects files stored in your user profile so your extertnal HDD should be ok. But if your pics have gone missing change folder options to display hidden files, select all the hidden files (ones that look tansparent), r-click properties and un-tick hidden. Then change the folder options back.
 
It worked, cheers for that. Now I have got to spend all my day sorting out my desktop computer. Everything is gone, all my contacts, e-mail, everything, but at least my family stuff is all still on my external HDD.
 
I've got the same exact problem and i was only viewing the thread about Pauls old car, even though i have anti virus etc it was throwing up things saying my basically my hard drive was stuffed, like a prat a link came up to do a restore which looked genuine. It scanned computer told me what was going on and pay extra to restore it !!. Threw all my pictures into my recycle bin and all my desk top icons have vanished. Have had to log on with the wifes profile page and most of her desk top stuff has gone.
 
Seems strange that we both have exactly same problem and i did suspect Neco then thought it was my HD crashing but after getting back on line i went back into Neco and my laptop through a wobbler again. Put it down again to my HD as i cannot access anything apart from the internet unless i go to my wifes progile page. Think it's going to have to be a re-install.
 
System restore should solve this problem I would think as it was an executable program that caused the problem, seen this before.
Send the computer back a day in time.
 
To late for me now. I have already started reinstalling it. It was so bad I had lost everything. Could not access anything on my computer so I could not have done this fix anyhow.
Well that is th elast time I view anything over on that site ever again.
 
Thanks all, did a restore back a day and now all ok, only strange thing is everthing in my saved favorites has vanished. No prob will just load it back up again. If i can remenber what was in it. (won't be Neco now though !)

Mine was the same as yours Pete but managed to change profile to my wifes where most stuff was still usable thank god.
