Virus Warning on NECO

Thanks all, did a restore back a day and now all ok, only strange thing is everthing in my saved favorites has vanished. No prob will just load it back up again. If i can remenber what was in it. (won't be Neco now though !)

Mine was the same as yours Pete but managed to change profile to my wifes where most stuff was still usable thank god.
Rich, you got off lightly then mate, I took more extreme action and jumped the gun a bit over this and wiped my harddrive as soon as the trouble started. Only + side is my desktop computer is running at lightspeed right now due to nothing being on it apart from antivirus.
I am still 100% sure I got this off NECO. Just a warning to anyone else who might go over there and view pictures.

I actually though my hard drive was stuffed, until i saw your post. Thought it was strange that when i got into wifes profile i did a system check and it said no threats etc detected. Must be a sly little virus that creeps under the protection somehow.

I was the same as you, I thought that my harddrive was knackered but quickly realised that it was a virus. I did disconect my external HDD very fast though as this is where all my importiant stuff is kept. I do not keep anything like that on my actual computer HDD anymore due to me losing a load of stuff a few years ago. I am usually pretty carefull at what I do on my PC, but this time I got caught out.
So for me, it is bye bye NECO. It will take me all day now to sort out my PC again and get it back to where I need it. I just hope that no one else has fallen foul of this virus.

If it should happen again(certainly hope not) you can get into the computer in safemode, which is done by pressing F8(usually) as the pc starts up, just keep tapping F8 till the screen comes up with the options to do so.

Then you can System Restore.

Cheers Maurice, only strange thing that has happened after i restored my laptop back one day is all my pictures have vanished from the folder and cannot find them anywhere. Not too bothered as i have them all backed up on a usb stick. Also my favourites vanished from my home page but when i started putting new ones back in it states that i already have it saved, and it asks if you want to over write it which i do and it then appears in my favourites....Baffling

might be worth a look at post 2 &4 might throw a bit of light on it and help

As per what Lazybones suggests, Also, I assume you have done a search for them using"include hidden files" ?
If not, search the computer looking also for hidden files.

You can just search for pictures when you do this.

Jeez i'm going blind as well ! , didn't see those posts. Many thanks all have found the hiding photos now and all restored and added my favourites back. That bit wanted a good sorting out anyway.

It has taken me around 8 hours to get back to normal with my desktop PC. As I have said, the only upside to all this is it is running like a brand new machine now.

Stay away from the porn.:LOL::LOL::LOL:
Nothing to do with the porn mate, my desktop is my family PC, my children use it as well as me. I would not be that stupid knowing what stuff I have got stored on it.
This was a genuine attack from that site, I was just very unlucky.

It was meant as a joke, but obviously it fell on stoney ground again

This time yes a little bit. Just had a crap day sorting all this out. It has taken me 8 hours all in to get myself back to where I was 24 hours ago. Just a bit tired from it all now + my boys have been killing me today lol !!!

well I would suggest you take an image of your harddrive now then as there is going to be a huge influx of new viruses attaching through web servers attaching to certs from vericas and symantec
I have no idea what that means or what that is going to do for me. All I can say is I must have just been unlucky. This has never happened to me before and the only other time something similar happened it was not me using the PC at the time. I have sorted it all out now and I am sure I will be fine now I have wiped my PC clean.

any website name that you type into your browser has the chance of being compromised. To safe guard against this trust certificates are used (also known as digital signature) the biggest issuer of these certificates is a company called VERITAS, they also own SYMANTEC. They have been compromised by hackers/crackers and have been trying to cover it up as the last certificate issueing company that was hacked was added to microsofts untrusted list and as a result liquidated. It takes 5 minutes to instal a software string that will spoof an internet address and redirect it, no websites are safe this can be done to https sites including bank accounts. NO antivirus/spyware or malware removal software can prevent it.
