Removed my DC Audio 8" ported sub from the boot and replaced it with the 12" Rockford Fosgate sealed sub that was originally in the car when I bought it. Having heard the two side by side I prefer the sealed sub and it suits the music I listen to more (mainly rock type stuff). I have a sealed enclosure for the DC that was custom made for the passenger footwell so may give that a go at some point. The ported DC was simply too much for me, I was getting a little tired of it attacking my senses with too much booming bass! Is this a sign of getting older?
Just prefer the tighter more controlled bass output of the sealed sub.

Can all subs be ported or sealed, according to listener preference? I have a Pioneer sub at home (12", I think) waiting to be built into a box, my music tastes are quite similar to yours.
Yes I think that sub itself can live in either type box - the other plus of a sealed box is it takes up less space. I now have my boot back
