What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Just a few small jobs today as Harry (my little chap) has started his cricket, and I had to watch the Newcastle vs Chelsea on the last day of the season. [TOOOOOOOOOON! :)].

Anyway I managed to wrench the remnants of the connection from my old fuel filter, remove the clutch from the AC again (to give it a clean up and think about shims) and swapped my clutch switch over ready for my cruise control. Oh and I have a oil leak that's going to need attention, but I'll be picking your brains at Castle Howard on that one.

Drove it to work for the first time. Still coming to terms with the loudness of the exhaust - not exactly inconspicuous!

Taxi duties today, love pillarless doors :D also been to price up having the belts and water pump changed, mate couldn't believe how clean it was under all the filth when he last saw it.

Thisll be no comfort to Mark but DG got an aircon rregass this morning. [emoji3]

Just remove it, think of all that weight you can save lol

You quickly get used to it and then start to realise how heavy your right foot is...

Ask Mark, we was deaf when we got to combe lmao

Well fortunately I got the priveledge of speaking to Terry Haynes about working on my transmission but sadly he passed away before I got a chance to send it to him. He was one of the main guys or maybe even the main guy who helped with the development of the MTX75 I believe for Ford and then later Noble. But for Noble for sure. And no its not just a stock box shoved in. They have special coatings inside the boxes and on the gear sets as well as things like roller bearing shift forks and such. Some of those Nobles Ive seen around 400-500 all the way up to over 900 HP. there's no way that the stock box out of a cougar is gonna take it. I seem to remember the totally stock nobles that used the MTX75 was around 400hp.

However, your little veggie box is one giant leap on the path of making it a gear box that theres no way short of a total catastrophe your cougar will break it.
If i remember correctly the Noble M12 started off with a standard MTX75 box tested and threw away all but the casing, the stock gears are shrink fit on the shafts and with higher torque will just spin on the shaft, the stock torque rating for the MTX75 is 214 ft/lbs. The coating used on the inside of the box is to stiffen the case predominantly in the diff area to prevent flexing

As for the difference between V6 and 4 pot gearboxes, the input shaft is a different size, i cant remember how much longer the V6 is but it was definately longer.

Well there was actually a debate on MTX75 input shafts just for the V6. Some had a 2 piece shaft and others had a 1 piece or some craziness like that.

Side not though. I wonder if the gears spinning are the issue with a Jag transfer cases. I'm gonna have to look into that. Couldn't you fix the spinning gears issue though by putting a little keeper like the crankshaft has for the harmonic balancer in there and stop that? I know it would probably take some engineering but in theory wouldn't that be a solution to the problem?

Driving through residential areas, pretend I've got an egg between my foot and the loud pedal! [emoji38]

Still, not in the same league as your pipes [emoji38]
You should try these if you want to hear loud.

Once again its been a while since i stripped a gearbox but i am pretty sure the auto box is a 2 piece and the manual box is a single shaft, also I think the mtt6 gearbox has keyed gears to prevent spinning and as such are rated for a higher torque but i dont think there is enough space in the engine bay to acommodate a mounting plate

Well here manual too. But it may have been something with contours built before a set date and built after.

Wow

Tim said he had Wildcat tested at Castle Combe and the result was 94db. So a bit quieter than Rik's

When I went on track with Jinxy at Curborough, they didn't test the sound levels. I never went through scrutineering with Dave Chant Sr. and his TVR. And every other car I've been on track in was owned by the track (Silverstone, Brands).

So I don't know what they do. Is it a dB measurement at a set distance from the car and at a fixed RPM?

The test Ricky did was a bit less formal than that, him revving the swear word off it and me standing by the exhaust with his phone like another swear word
