1) Went to the scrappy and removed the top hose from a scrap Mondeo V6.
2) Came back and, UNBELIEVABLY, WITHOUT ANY HELP
removed the top hose from the Cougar and fitted the replacement.
3) Filled the cooling system back up and went for a drive - no apparent leaks, no matter how hard you drive or how hot the car gets; until you stop, then it p*sses out again.
4) Looked suspiciously at the thermostat housing, it might be my imagination but it seems to have a pinhole.
5) Texted Andy for commiseration and advice
6) Rang Ford to check out cost of a new thermostat housing - both parts of the housing and a new stat is nearly £200
7) Found a spare complete unit in the shed
Now I've just got to let it cool down, and begin again

Finally got round to fitting the battery cover that I bought in the group buy about, what, 5 or 6 years ago?
Looks great!
