What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

1) Went to the scrappy and removed the top hose from a scrap Mondeo V6.
2) Came back and, UNBELIEVABLY, WITHOUT ANY HELP:eek: removed the top hose from the Cougar and fitted the replacement.
3) Filled the cooling system back up and went for a drive - no apparent leaks, no matter how hard you drive or how hot the car gets; until you stop, then it p*sses out again.:cautious:
4) Looked suspiciously at the thermostat housing, it might be my imagination but it seems to have a pinhole.
5) Texted Andy for commiseration and advice(y)
6) Rang Ford to check out cost of a new thermostat housing - both parts of the housing and a new stat is nearly £200:eek:
7) Found a spare complete unit in the shed(y)

Now I've just got to let it cool down, and begin again:LOL:

I had this with my car when I first bought it. It had a water leak on both the top hose where it joins the thermostat and the thermostat was very worn due to the leak. I tried cutting the pipe down but that did not work so I just replaced both parts and never looked back. Nice easy fix. Bit of a tip for you, if you do need to change the thermostat then take the battery out, it is allot easier without it in there. Good luck.

if you haven't done so since our welding day i would suggest putting the battery on charge for at least 2 days...it was well drained that day and your alty isnt in the best of condition..
altys actually require power to charge..if your battery is so low all it will do is generate enough power to run the car and thats it..
disconnect it from the car<this is very important:) and charge it up on a battery charger for a couple of days. you'll see it'll behave completely different.

Matt, while you've got the battery out it wouldn't do any harm to clean up the earth connections under the battery tray. Remove the plastic part of the tray and you'll see two or three earth straps; unscrew them and clean-up the rings and where they contact the body with emery cloth and slap a bit of copper slip on them when you do them up again.
 
Thanks mate. I know the car hasn't done much mileage lately, but it seems strange for it to happen immediately after i've been messing with the battery.
 
Had a go at fixing my sagging driver's door - managed to make (at best) only a marginal improvement, the door closes more positively, but in terms of looks it's no better :( at least I didn't mess it up completely.

To cheer myself up, I then decided to stick on my nice new membership sticker (thanks Pid_16V) - thought I couldn't possibly mess that up, then had a heart-stopping moment when I peeled the backing paper off and one of the "2"s came off with it. Some delicate work with some tweezers later and I rescued it :) :

However, I was then so focussed on getting it stuck on right that I made no effort to get it oriented how I wanted, so it's not quite as I'd like it but at least it's not upside-down or anything.

All in all not the most successful afternoon...
 
The spanner lit up going to work on Monday, so yesterday treated the big cat to oil & filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, greased hinges and other moving parts, topped up washer bottle, hoovered and polished. Now shes good to go till next service, oh and I also replaced the radio aerial that was going manky at the bottom.
