What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

When you've got a solenoid gone/going the locking tries to work on the remote but the good lock opens again straightaway and usually blows the fuse.

Mine doesn`t do that Andy, drivers door locks and unlocks on the remote, passenger door does nothing at all on the remote but central locking works perfectly on the key in passenger door but sometimes does what you describe above with the key in the drivers door

Can you just fit a solenoid from any car i.e a breaker?

OHC: overhead console; the earlier ones with 7 lamps included a 'bulb-out' warning.

Any Cougar one should be fine as long as you could test it beforehand, they are door specific and a 'bit fiddly' to do.

Almost definitely a dodgy solenoid Rik.

Rik on some keys it was possible to change the way they worked, one press of open just did the drivers door, have you tried pressing open once and then press open straight away i.e. two presses on open, you may find it unlocks the passenger door
it was a way of adding security so that all doors didn't open to allow other unwanted's in
just a thought, may not apply

Rik, if your remote is set up the same as mine, then only the drivers door unlocks on first press on fob. To open the passenger side, you need to double click the fob and then both doors will unlock. This is just a security feature. Mine has been like this since I bought it. I programmed my old Mondy to do the same, although never done it on my Focus, although again it's still possible to do this. So it may not be a solanoid. Give it a try before you start changing anything.

Yup, exactly as mine is set up. Just a security feature, stops anyone from jumping into your passenger side when you don't want them to.

MOT at the end of the week, so it only makes sense that all the stock parts go on to avoid a silly fail!

Yup, good idea matey. I actually unplug the high level brake light, as mine says "Cougar" and would fail. So garage advised unplug it and say it doesn't work lol!! Hope you get a lovely clear pass on the day.

They were all originally set up with the double press for the passenger door.

The Cougar can't be changed to single press for both doors, or vice-versa, using the keys but has to be done via the ECU.

Fingers crossed! It wasn't the only thing I did. I put the cone filter back in but tucked it in the bottom half of the ST200 airbox with an aluminium heat shield on top. Only went on a short run, but the performance and the sound was amazing and it was smooth as ever. No misfires, idle was smooth etc

Here's a fun one for you: Mine is traditional double-press to open the pax side... unless it's cold out. If the temperature is below about 10[SUP]o[/SUP] C, both sides unlock with a single click. I haven't tracked the problem down yet, but I suspect it's a lubrication and resistance issue. Maybe.

Anyway, I haven't done anything to Tiger today. But yesterday she got a wash, hot wax and detailing from the nice guys down at Roni's car wash down at Waterside in Peartree bridge.

I would've done it myself but T's Glof needed a bath (she's obliged to keep it in good condition or she gets dinged financially, and I was worried about the wheels getting pitted from brake dust) and since Uncle VW pays for hers, we convoyed down there. They really do an excellent job and it's amazing to watch them.

On a related note, if you're ever in a position (on track) in your Cougar where you need to keep up with a high-end Glof going full chat, switch off your traction control. In fact, if you're ever on track with your Cougar, switch off your traction control.

Actually, just... just go ahead and switch off your traction control. It's rubbish.
