What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Went to change tank straps today, found you have to remove rear anti roll bar to unhook them, is nothing easy[emoji53], a job for another day i think. So while it was in the air i sprayed the underneath with old engine oil[emoji106]

I think I tried every method of shifting that last caliper bolt today. Those things are unbelievably tough. Plus-Gas no chance, heat no difference, stillsons nope, cold chisel hard to find an angle but no use, grinder yes but it's amazing how that last little bit of thread keeps it all from coming apart. It took a trolley jack handle and a vice to move the bolt. As a result I didn't quite finish all that I wanted to do as you can see...

Hell of a job there but well done on getting it out. (y) Did you fit hex heads going back in?

Certainly did. The only remaining problem was torquing them up. Ford must have spent months checking their AutoCAD drawings to ensure that there is nowhere to fit a torque wrench. A smaller one would have helped, or with a smaller 'head'. But in the end I decided that if I did them up as tight as I could with a ratchet in that confined space, there was no way I would ever get them any tighter, even if I did have a shorter torque wrench. They are cleaned and threadlocked and I think I would notice any change of 'feel' or funny noises. That's how I intend to get sleep over the issue anyway !

Washed it as it was covered in dust from my garage. Done 2 miles in it since the MOT.

Yeah it is still holding up very well given the spray job was done nearly 10 years ago now. Just need to use it once a week because it almost did not start today due to not being moved for quite a while. I know the battery might get killed this winter if I do not start it once a week at least.

I can thoroughly recommend getting an 'intelligent charger' similar to this for your battery ( this one is actually a 24V version ). Once fully charged to 14.4V they drop back to a float at about 13.8V so they won't overcharge or dry the cells out and can stay on permanently. For my father, who rarely used his car in later years, I fitted a 1/4" jack plug in the front grille and connected that to the charger on the wall. That way it was easy to connect / disconnect without lifting the bonnet in a confined space. Coincidentally, if he forgot to unplug it, it would easily pull out as he reversed out of his garage and often did !

I think I might just buy one of these as it sounds perfect for over the winter months. Thanks.

I didn't fit the HVAC surround as my stereo keys are in the Ka, which is not here.

Sanded and painted up the battery clamp kindly given to me by Andy(y)
