What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Stilsons with a pipe on the end to increase the leverage. And don't fall over backwards if it finally shifts or slips off.
As to heat, the bellows on the rack or the CV joints ain't too far away !

Chris i had the same problem, so i took the track rod end out of its housing and managed to undo that first then the locknut came off quite easy

Thanks Mike. I tried that first but couldn't get leverage on anything. Trying to turn the actual trackrod end just pulled everything else about, if you see what I mean?

So anyway I have a £200 Halfords voucher from my parents here. Tomorrow morning (I'm on my holidays) I'm going down there to see what's what.

Took the car for MOT today.... failed on:

anti roll bar linkage rubber mounting deteriorated (rear) both sides. drop links I think he means...

suspension arm severely distorted, near side rear lower (rear arm)

suspension arm severely distorted, off side rear lower (front and rear)

rear fog lamp offside not working

rear fog lamp tell tale not working

any advise on the suspension replacements would be greatly appreciated....

Yeah, there the ones, I can get the other ones, ordered them from my local Andrew Page, collect tomorrow, along wit the drop links, been having a look on the forum and found Steve Morris's excellent "how to" on the removal of the rear sub frame so will be doing that this weekend..... on my own... should be fun...(y)

Id advise to get all new bolts for the arms and subframe mounting bolts.

Doing it by yourself you will find it very difficult to relocate the subframe...we struggled with the two of us getting it into place and done up

What jacking points?!! Chassis rails only!!

Unless the chassis rails are boned, lift it so you can get a stand in on the bit of rail you can use. You pick the strongest looking part and bend the damn things...

Trolley jack is your friend. I dont know why these seem so hard to people to put in. In my younger days I used to do entire transmissions for rear wheel drive vehicles by myself. Which I must say suck without a jack. These things though?? Fricken simple.

We needed you a couple of months ago then Dan

We tried using the trolley jacks but neither mine or Chris's went high enough..maybe we just have small ones :)

Put something on the jack then so its higher. But even then, raise the jack all the way up and sit one side on it. Lift the other side high enough to get the bolts started then lift the side thats on the jack and put the bolts in that side. Turn the bolts in most of the way but loose enough it will slide around, shove something in the alignment holes to line it up and tighten it down. Hell if nothing else. Take everything off the ends of the arms and sit the subframe on your belly and just manhandle it in there. They're not THAT heavy. Just awkward to hold and put a bolt in without being under it.

Cheers for all the advise guys, I have a very large trolley jack that can go quite high, so that was my way of thinking how to get the sub frame up into position, Dan, you said about replacing the old bolts with new bolts, do you, or anyone know what sort/type they are?
