What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Cheers for all the advise guys, I have a very large trolley jack that can go quite high, so that was my way of thinking how to get the sub frame up into position, Dan, you said about replacing the old bolts with new bolts, do you, or anyone know what sort/type they are?

Trolley jack is your friend. I dont know why these seem so hard to people to put in. In my younger days I used to do entire transmissions for rear wheel drive vehicles by myself. Which I must say suck without a jack. These things though?? Fricken simple.

On the project zetec, i removed the SF, complete with all control arms through the wheel arch so i didn't even need to remove the exhaust. I also replaced the new SF complete with all control arms attached in the reverse order using the exhaust as a support. Quite easy really. Once the SF is near central i got the arms attached to the hub on one side, jacked up the SF with a block of wood until i could thread a couple of bolts in to hold then fasten up the other side control arms to the hub. Align the SF, torque everything up and Bob's ya mothers brother. :) Simples.

Got the rear subby out today, new drop links and trailing arms fitted, cleaned the subby up (lots of surface rust, but not rotten through anywhere, so wire brushed it and gave it a coat of Hammerite....(y)). Checked over the rear brake pipes that you can't usually get access to with the subby in place, all found to be in good condition, so very pleased with that, didn't really have any battles with stubborn bolts etc, gave them a good soaking with penetrating oil prior to removal, so that my have helped, tank straps look in pretty good shape also, so all in all, a good day.... let's see how tomorrow goes, when I come to re fit everything.....(y)

It's the one I put up for sale a few weeks ago Chris, but I didn't realise the MOT was due so soon, I did a lot of welding on it to get it through the MOT last year, after I got it from Will's place, I would like a C2, but this one will have to make way first, I am in a bit of a situation really, as I know how good this one is, after having it for a year and doing quite a bit to it, I practically know it inside out, and how good and reliable it is, and this is where my problem lies, do I get rid of a perfectly good reliable car, for a C2..... but know nothing about the car... (if you know what I mean...)

Good work mate.
Always better the devil you know, not that my car-buying antics are any guide. You've already lost the boobs so you're halfway there anyway:LOL:

I know exactly what you mean, my friend. I really wanted Wil's green C2. And at £100 for a project car it was no contest. But then I look at the practical side of things....

The sunroof is fixable but stuck open, so she needs to be under cover...
But my 2-car garage is already occupied with Jinxy and tools.

I have tools, parts, love and dedication...
But Tiger is my daily, and people who I genuinely love have kept her on the road. How could I replace her? Why would I?

That car you currently have is an absolute angel, notwithstanding anything she needs to get tidy again. I have to admit I never liked the white bits, but that's not my call to make. Still, she was speced out with equipment that wasn't even available on the Cougar in the UK, and I always loved her for what she was.

Clearly it's your car to do with as you wish, but I'm not sure that buying a C2 will improve your experience. Good luck, whatever you choose to do.

Its shut enough that one of those 'top half' car covers would sort it for now, or a bin bag taped down.
Don't forget there's a working mechanism included too.

We spoke about it earlier. She was all like, "Well if you want it, let's do it! Why aren't we doing this?"

The storage is a problem of course. Kind of weirded out by my Tomcat girl trying to make me buy a Cougar.

We're both hardware hoarders so it could've been a reason to get rid of that MX-5. But that Coug is not for individual sale anymore so hopefully I can focus away from it, thankfully.

Put something on the jack then so its higher. But even then, raise the jack all the way up and sit one side on it. Lift the other side high enough to get the bolts started then lift the side thats on the jack and put the bolts in that side. Turn the bolts in most of the way but loose enough it will slide around, shove something in the alignment holes to line it up and tighten it down. Hell if nothing else. Take everything off the ends of the arms and sit the subframe on your belly and just manhandle it in there. They're not THAT heavy. Just awkward to hold and put a bolt in without being under it.

Pretty much how I did mine, working solo.
Trolley jack, lots of wooden blocks, and lifting into place with one hand and getting a bolt in with the other.
Believe me Mr muscles I aint.
Blocks on the jack, not jack on blocks.

Busy day doing other stuff but managed to find my ABS problem, rear hub ring had split!!!
Swapped out a new hub from Al's 55 quid link he posted lol tho i didn't realise that burnt grease smells just like bloody LPG leaking!!!! Seriously, i had the arch liner and boot stripped in minutes looking for a bloody gas leak lol but gave the brake a service before putting it all back together. Should get the other side done tomorrow............

So it begins, Cougar went in for front lower arm, discs and pads today, I am going to put C2 interior into her and rear spoiler and twin exhausts. I didn’t want to but I can’t help myself!
