What're your MPG's like?

I'm getting plenty of Smiles-per-miles with the decat, cone air filter and shiney new exhaust system, but i'm also getting pretty poor MPG out of it.

16-19 mpg around town

23-26 mpg cruising in 5th @ 50-60mph


Basicaly, is this normal? The tech specs for the cougar suggest 30mpg but i've never seen anywhere near that much.

I get about 38mpg on a run on the motorway in my V6 and around 20-25 around town, but must admit whilst doing a bit of spirited driving recently i got it down to 9 mpg

I feel thats pretty poor mpg even for a V6, i'm getting around 35 on the trip to/from work about 50 miles round trip driven at 50-70mph

I do better than that with an unmapped 3.0 Duratec!

Sounds like you need a good service to me.

Yeah that's bad, I get around 31mpg toddling along the motorway at 75(ish) and that's with the four wheel drive system

i was getting round the same as you 27mpg with mine decated etc got a remap done and now the mpg is up but i would agree with servicing first

6 new plugs, new Cone Air Filter and new Oil/Oil Filter. I dunno what else i'd change to service it lol (other than maybe fuel filter?)

did you do a reset by disconnecting battery?

Yeah, fuel filter is a big one. Also a tank of good fuel might make a big difference.

I get 21-22 average just bin to westgate and back this weekend got 32mpg was pretty happy with that, and I was not being a slouch

I get between 22-25 around town and 35-38 on motorways with an St200 engine with full SS decat.

Ive had 7 at its lowest......and I think that was on the local roads to me that you like Jim

And on the flip side ive achieved 38 on a journey to a camp site in wales fully loaded with a roof box averaging 65mph

Talking to Jim the other week, I said that I was getting a consistent 33.7 at 75MPH (on the satnav, not the gauge) on cruise control.

Seems that it's taken some time to settle down, but after going from MK to the NEC and back over the last two days, I'm at 36.4 overall including the 5 mile blarret across MK to get home and the traffic at the NEC itself.

This includes putting my toe down for the inevitable overtakes of people doing 69.5 in the middle lane (while avoiding holding up the Audis in the outside lane doing 130), plus my own occasional expeditions to the far end of the naughty side of the dial.

OK...I know there are a few threads about mpg,believe me i,ve read em all!!
but so far I cant get an answer to my prob. Im driving a 2.5 auto & cruising
around on my estate im only getting AT BEST 14.5 mpg so somebody please
tell me what i can do to improve this performance other than putting a match
to my cat.
