Will the Cougar ever be worth anything?

I'm worried now that when I've paid my dues there aint gonna be much to choose from that would be conciderd tasty and a future classic, as even a 62plate will be five years old! What the hell will be worth buying in 5years time?

Classics

Well i'm kind of the opinion that a "classic" is any car that's a bit of a rarity ok so some (austin alegro) probably not :) so on those grounds surely the Cougar will become a classic at some point by it's rarity value, and who'd have thought the Sierra XR4i would now be worth what it is, i've seen a couple on fleebay for around £3,500

come on Cougar !!!

Hello,

My first post, just popped over from UKPOC. I've read this topic and we've talked about all the things you've mention but with the probe.

Probe prices are just starting to rise now, we've got rid of the majority of bad cars, rust has started to take a few now too. The £200 cars are pretty much non existant thanks to the scrapage scheme and the continued high price of scrap. 2013 is the 20th international birthday of the car with the following year for the UK anniversary. I reckon were down to about 1,400 cars left now, by April next year we'll be lucky to see 1k on the road with a couple of hundred on Sorn.

At the moment it's the ultra low mileage cars commanding any money, a 9.5k mile one sold a couple of years ago for £2k and that was a 16v.

I reckon you guys are about 4-5 years behind us so as your numbers sold were less you will probably find you'll hit the wall faster and values will climb quicker.

We've already started to see the Classic press take and interest and we've been doing classic car shows rather than the modified shows for a couple of years now. We've pretty much been accepted and people always say that they wanted one - they usually can't believe that they're still quite cheap.

You still get the odd knobhead you just walks past and says 'they were *****' but won't stop and talk, or if they do you ask if they've ever driven one and they always say no. Same experts usually say Probes were based on a Mondeo, and will argue blind that they're right!

Basically though I think we have a common ground, generally unappreciated, but decent cars. I always say think back to the Consul Classic and Consul Capri, american styled, never sold in big numbers but now a definate and desirable classic - our time will come!
