Windows 10

VMWare is a virtualisation platform. Basically it does two things:

1) Uses big computer hardware to host multiple virtual "computers" and,
2) Uses a cluster of redundant computer hardware to increase reliability. So the failure of one server or component doesn't affect you.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but you get the idea.

I own an enterprise-class (DL580 and Poweredge for the nerds) VMWare V-Sphere cluster for...reasons. I sometimes like to install old operating systems on this platform for fun because I am a sad little man.

I've never been upstairs in your house, but I always imagined there to be a room that looked like the bridge of a starship ;)

Do you have the Gen 9 Chris, I have just disposed of my PowerEdge R630 and am looking for a new toy to play with server 2016, the Gen 9 is supposed to be really good and I also fancy stepping away from Dell so HP would be a good choice, just after some working knowledge of the Gen 9 before I start saving up (y)

Does anyone know if Windows phones will get the free upgrade, too? Joanne has a Nokia Lumia 1020 on 3, which is currently running Windows 8.1.

A far as I know it will depend on your carrier a you need a 3gb download link to install it and you will also need windows update switched on although to be fair there isn't a huge amount of information regarding mobile phones, it is based mainly for tablets, Laptops and PC's

It is due for launch later this year. The quickest way to get it is to sign up to the "Windows Insider" program and you can update it to Win10 now. Be warned though - it is still classed as 'Alpha/Beta' software so does have it's bugs and issues and is not complete yet (y)

Just finished the upgrade to Windows 10 - that was quick and painless with no issues whatsoever. Typing this reply using the new 'Edge' browser - RIP Internet Explorer ;)

My desktop has upgraded, the Win 7 Pro laptop is still waiting and the little prompt thing has vanished altogether from the Win 8.1 laptop... so I don't know what's going on there.

Regarding the desktop, straight away I've run into an issue where no Win 10 driver appears to exist yet for my NVidia GT610 graphics card, meaning I'm stuck with the generic Microsoft driver and a 2" thick black border around all four sides of the screen.

As John said, quick and painless, all drivers seem ok. I've not had much time to study it in depth but first impression are good. Having just about got my head round 8.1 , it looks pretty much like a basic re-organised version. Not sure about this new edge browser though.
