Hi all, new member so any advice would be much appreciated.
I drive a 2001 v6 and a couple of months ago a stone was thrown up off the road from a vehicle in front and cracked the top of the widescreen. This has gradually worsened so phoned Autoglass 3 weeks ago to arrange a replacement using my insurance excess. This was all fairly straight forward until the technician came out 2 weeks ago, he stated that the 6 clips which hold the side moulding in place and run down each A pillar were completely rusted and need replacing. He took off each trim and showed me and they've basically disintegrated. He said they would need to order them directly from Ford and that they need riveted in and would arrange another date once they've arrived.......fair enough.
They came back out today, 3 weeks after the initial phone call to replace everything. When the boy arrived, I explained what happened previously and what had to get done and he didn't have a clue what I was talking about. He came out just to replace the windscreen, no clips. WTF So he phones HQ who in turn tell him to head back to base with a view to again ordering these clips and arranging another date. Bearing in mind, I've not driven this in 3 weeks since being advised not to.
Now just had a phonecall to advise me that these clips have been discontinued and they are unable to complete the job due to this. They won't even consider doing it without them as they need to be in place before the windscreen goes in. He then advised me to contact my insurance who in turn could write the car off as these clips aren't available and the job to fix it may outweigh the value of the vehicle. The car is mint and only has 50k on the clock and never missed a beat.
So long story short, has anyone ever encountered this problem with these clip? Does anyone have any ideas what my next step could be? Really don't want to write my car off. The guy at Autoglass has said that if I can source them myself then they would still do it as long as they're he proper part.
Really appreciate any help or advice, thanks a lot
