X711PPU - my new Cougar! and a quick question about the spare wheel!

Well, at last, I've got one. I ended up compromising and going for an automatic because I was getting desperate for something to use over winter. It was either that or a Focus!

I'll see how it goes and possibly look at searching for a manual one in spring.

My question the spare wheel is basically that, when I got it, the spare wheel was in upside down with the jack, towing bracket and wheel brace on top of it. Can anyone tell me exactly how it's all meant to go in? I've arranged it so that the towing bracket (in its yellow case) is attached to the thread of the jack and the jack has a screw thing through it in to one of the holes in the floor. The wheel itself is attached, through the jack, to the other hole in the floor. That all seems quite secure so far but the wheel brace is loose as I couldn't see how that fitted together. Can anyone tell me how it's meant to be?

Thanks.

Congrats on your purchase. :)

Sounds like you've secured the jack and wheel ok (with wheel face up).
The brace hooks and clips onto the jack in a certain way, can't remember without looking at it.
BTW the brace is useless so you're better off binning it and getting a decent one.

Congrats on your purchase mate, i.i.r.c. your registration is similar to Matt's (Ginja) is yours a C1 or C2?

Well done on finally getting yourself a Cougar.
The towing eye on mine sits in a recess in a polystyrene 'tray' at about "7 o'clock" on the spare wheel and is visible when you lift up the boot carpet; not hidden under the wheel and the wheel brace, for what use it is, lives in a leatherette wallet under the wheel.

Matt's is X859PPU.

My C1's towing eye is as yours Andy but the C2's is also clipped to the jack in some sort of way.

Thanks for the messages guys. Mine's a C2. The towing eye's in a yellow plastic thing that appeared to have marks from the jacj thread which is why I clipped it on there. Seems to fit nicely. The spare's a space saver, and no sign of any polystyrene or leatherette wallet.

Well done on your purchase, and hope it's a good one. The "wheel brace" has never touched my car since the day i bought it, i imagine it is now a bean tin or a corgi toy :) Towing eye is in the polystyrene block at the rear left of the boot floor under the carpet.
