They're my favourite X-Type alloys too!

What's the interior on it? I'm assuming it's the usual black leather, but what's the facia? There were loads! Does it have the sat nav? The base models had a fairly naff twiddly knob air-con system. The next step up was digital climate control (which I had) and the top of the range was a touch-screen system to handle everything.

Looks good in black!

Oooh tasty. That black one REALLY works for me! I reckon that's the trim I'd go for when it's time to replace the old Rover.

Just checked Autotrader - less than £6,000 for that black one? That's a lot of car for the money!

Did you know that if you actually use a Jag dealer for servicing etc they collect the car from wherever you want, deliver it back cleaned and provide courtesy cars too if needed? ;)

My blue Rover is a Brummy, and my Jag is from a couple of hours up the M6 then...
The white Rover is a FJW. Never heard of that before either, and it's definately not a native since all old style Scottish plates had a letter "S" somewhere in the last 3.

I do miss my X-Type from time to time. It was probably a bit easier to drive quickly on smaller roads purely because the S-Type is so wide. You can't really chose your lines on corners despite the extra power. That's not what the S-Type is about though, and it's not why I bought it. It definately is a driver's car though. It's just so rewarding to drive. It's just so smooth and quiet driving along normally, yet so composed, taught and gruff sounding when pushing on. The quality of the ride just blows my friends' Audis and BMWs into the weeds. Obviously I'm bias because I like Jaguars, but the Audis and BMWs achieve the same level of body control, perhaps a gnat's whisker's better cornering ability but at the expense of significantly worse rides. The S-Type is just so good at making bumps go away without handling like a boat. The X-Type drove well too, but it was a bit rougher and noisier. There wasn't as much feedback to the driver either.

If or when I do lose the blue Rover I'd be very tempted to (read "I'd definately") buy a diesel X-Type to replace it.

Buying the S-Type was a really hard decision actually because there really was nothing at all wrong with the X-Type. The S-Type is built to a higher quality for sure, and it has a lot more toys and a lot less milage than my X-Type had, but even still there was no aspect of the X-Type I thought was lacking. Had I bought a 3.0l X-Type instead of a 2.5, I'd probably still have it. I'd happily go back. The 4 wheel drive was brilliant. Shame the diesels are only FWD, but it would replace the Rover nicely as my cheap-to-run commuter car.

Oi!!! Most probably came from Stratstones in Farnworth. Don't bother visiting mate you would be very dissapointed.:sad:

Yeh, I know, that's what I was thinking too. If I had the money - I would buy that tomorrow. I like the inside spec of the car too - very nice.

The car was at Stratstone (my local dealer too) last week with a phantom fault. I was on my way to a leaving night do (corporate p155up) and heard a rumbling. It was pouring down with rain so wasn't sure what I was hearing. I pulled over and the back brakes were smoking. I thought I'd suffered the usual S-Type electronic parking brake failure so Stratstone took it in for a look. In exchange they gave me a Volvo S40 (**** car - hated every fibre of it's construction) which was also a BN plate with Stratstone's logos on the plates too.

I figured "BN" and Stratstone had something in common!

Yeah but not on my model year apparently. It was a recall so they should all have been sorted by now.

Basically the parking brake engages when you're driving. It's controlled by the ABS Modulator so it's best to let Jaguar pay for it me thinks!

It's not possible to get it wrong by hand because the parking brake can't be engaged when moving, and releases automatically when you move out of park, or even if you try to drive away. Basically it's not possible to drive away with the parking brake on, or accidently engage it when driving. If it happens, it's done it on it's own.

As I said though, it's a recall and the TSB numbers are online somewhere so it really shouldn't be happening any more (y)
 
I keep looking myself if I was tempted away from the Cougar it would be th X-type 3ltr sport. But at the moment I have put so much effort into the cougar, and I am loving the totally different driving experience over the standard one. Really does need more poke to get the best out of the transmission when playing!
 
Have you driven the Jag engine yet Charlie? It really is a different animal. The 3.0 X-Type is a bit quick too. 0-60 in 6.9 if memory serves?

They deleted the viscous coupling in the transfer diff in 2002 though. Mine was a 2004 and on slippery surfaces it was essentially a RWD car with a bit of front wheel assistance. It certainly wanted to oversteer under power. I've never tried a <2002 on slippery stuff but I'm reliably told they're a bit better for snow etc.

I never had any real difficulties climbing snowy slopes in mine but people on foot tended to turn and watch what all the noise and rear wheelspin was about :LOL:

It had a REALLY tight turning circle on snow :LOL: :LOL:
 
I've driven <2002 2.5ltr manual I have to say a beautifully appointed car but unfotunatly only in the dry!. Managed to get hold of the workshop manual for the mondy running gear and was very surprised to lean the drive is split 58% to the front wheels and 42% to the rear. I can only assume that this was a compromise for the design of the mondeo (Still essencially a fwd car).

I didn't know that! Does the 4x4 Mondy have a wishbone rear suspension or is it multi-link based? The thin tie-rod on the 2wd Mondeo/Cougar wasn't really suitable for reacting the compressive forces from lots of drive from the back wheels.
 
Flippin' heck only went out to pick up my daughter from cinema and whole website has changed.! The rear suspension is the same quadralink of the Mondeo with a revised crossmember. Also there is no viscous coupling on the mondeo 4x4 system! . If it is of interest to you I can scan the manual for you. Another surprise was the estate rear axle and suspension is different again and more akin to the X-type set up. Considering the vey short run of the fourby a hell of a lot of developemnt went into it!.

you ever hear about the ST250 Mondeo Charlie? 250bhp with paddle shift semi-automatic gear box and a supercharger....oh and the Cougar S concept....remember that was a 3.0L V6 with 4x4 too...

Oh with regards to the forum, scroll to the bottom of the page and there is a menu box were you can change the style, i'm on the old one as it fills up the screen on my mini-lap-top
 
Right I need a bit of help, advice and some suggestions :smile5:

Background - The white Rover has a massive power steering leak. Actually, it's a tiny hole but it's on the high pressure line straight out of the pump so it's big enough to empty the reservoir in about 1 minute of idling without using the steering. Cool huh?

The pipes are like hens' teeth to get hold of because the all rot - not unlike the Cougar's PAS cooler. I have managed to get hold of one in good nick.

I have fallen foul of MG Rover's sense of humour though. They have reversed the orientation of the union fittings. :mad2: The leaky pipe has a female. The new pipe has a male. Obviously, the next pipe along which is attached to the car has a male fitting.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Does anyone have ability to sort this out for me if I were to send you the pipes?

Unfortunately not... I'm no longer particularly well connected in that respect. I'm kinda hoping someone has access to the right tooling to splice the long metal bit of the new pipe to the old (female) end fitting which is compression fitted into the rubber flexi bit.
 
Would it not be like plumbing. Visit your local DIY shop and find an attachment or as Paul suggestes a local plant hire firm and have a pipe made up.
