Rob deserves a medal for all the work he does and he has the thanks and some money when you can (y)

Well I hope that explains the things the subs cover and will also ensure there is a little money in the pot for any problems we have to pay people to fix so it does not get paid out of someones own pocket.

agree , there would not be many who could do the same work and also be willing to do for nothing, as a club i understand that it is non profit making, and as such if our resident I.T man can be rewarded even only slightly then i think it is well deserved.

Here here........ as i said though, some of us wanna be kept in the loop as money is very precious esp. at the moment and we wanted to know where it was going. If Rob needs to fix the site then fine - no complaints from us to pay him - but by letting people know that that is where some subs are going, we wouldnt be so questionning!!

Partly my fault there used to be a post explaining what I have explained in this thread no problem with you guys asking at all obviously the software has changed three or four times since then and I forgot to repost it.

JJ

Sorry - I didn't want to cause a big debate on it, just wondered if maybe there were other options that were available that free forums were aware of.

As said before, I still think that its worth the subscription fee given the huge amount of info available both on the forum and from fellow subscribers.

Thanks for the explanations also.

A £5 jump in subscription is approx 37% increase and if you do the maths there are 365 'active' members which is an annual income of £6,570.00.

which, being business people we think is a fair question

If you are business people you need to do your sums as you are 1.46% out as £5.00 represents a 38.46% rise, which I think seems a lot in one hit, granted, it has stayed the same for a long time but that is an inflation busting rise. My problem lies with this being the thin end of the wedge. As most of you know, we breed Siamese kittens, the governing body decided to put registration prices up substantially a couple of years ago after not putting them up for a while, ever since we have had more 'substantial' rises and changes to rules on costs, as a result, many members have turned their back on the governing body and have gone to other registering bodies.
As regards Cougarfest being subsidised out of club funds, I thought we were told some time ago that cougarfest isn't funded from club funds, now we're being told it is??
Also, there are a lot of people who do a lot for the club and have done for many years without complaint or financial recompense, I thought that it was what volunteering was all about.

Rich,

A £5 rise was decided over a £3 rise so that future price rises wouldnt happen. Jase did speak to me regarding this and I try my best to keep the web side of the prices to a minimum.
Its just as traffic grows and the forum activity increases so does bandwidth and size. Also this board software isnt free. The last licence fee was £350 for the new software that has more bugs than a spanish budget hotel room.

Cougarfest im afraid you will have to speak to Jase as I didnt have any input on planning nor did I attend this year due to family events. When he reads this he will give you some input.

As for me being given some money.. I havent asked for any but Jase has given me a few quid here and there for large scale repairs. Its a 1/4 of what a professional web designer would charge and general day to day running I do on a voluntary basis as I have done for the last 2.5 years. This does work both ways though. Jason and I both dug the club out of the mire last year when we had to front money out of our own pockets to get the site turned back on. I have had to renew licences and domains on my credit card gaining interest on them for maybe a couple of months before it can be paid back.

lets not fuel the fire.. People are entitled to an opinion as you are by posting above but please keep the gloves on as we would like to discuss this.

For this year it wasn't Richard as the cost have increased for the site/s the "spare" cash each year has obviously decreased hence the downsizing of marquee and one fridge rather than two to keep fest as affordable as possible I cannot see costs rising again for the site/s for a long time as this decision has been made to deal with it in one go including money available for any problems that require outside assistance that Rob cannot deal with like server/hosting problems, these should be few and far between as the new host/server seems perfectly able to deal with our usage reliably (but at a higher cost) I would much rather reliability at a increased price than the situation we found ourselves in last year and the year before with the site becoming more frequently offline due to the load we were placing on the host and server.

Any kind of price rise is difficult to take our customers are now going mad that we will have to start charging vat!. got the usual complaints you have never charged before ! you must be making some profit!!! we earn no more than kast year part prices have risen the vat threshold hasn't so last week when we got a hm revenue and customs bill for £5,000 first thing we said was we didn't charge vat !. Thier reply tough you should have. accountant got the bill down to £2,500 which we still have to pay so bang goes this years holiday!.

I didn't see the post but I assume it was a red mist one which on reflection maybe wasn't pertinent (wish I had the common sense to do this sometimeso_O)

I was unsure of whether to post mine but it is my opinion and I stand by it, maybe they should do likewise.

Rich I have always read your posts on subjects like this as they always contain some good input (dependant on grog intake levels)
