Hi all.i'm looking to buy a cougar sometime in the near future and am looking around various sites.Anyhow i know that there's 2 versions of the cougar and am looking at a nice silver 2.0 c2 with 64k on the clock it's within my budget (i hope).what's people's verdict on the c2?.I owned a c1 several yrs back so know how nice these cars drive but never really looked at the c2.i always thought the c1 was a better looking car.however now i've actully looked a bit deeper i think that the interior is better on a 2 and i'm starting to like the headlights(something what put me off yrs ago)!.i'd just like other people's take on the c2.likey or no likey.Thanx adam..

You will get a mixed opinion mate. I personally prefer the look of the c2 headlights and interior, but the c1 is better in other ways looks ways i.e bumper.

Its the same car underneath, especially the zetec.

C2 is rarer and therefore worth a little more generally speaking

I've got a C1 with a full C2 leather interior and dash which is the best of both worlds. In my opinion of course! ;)

I prefer the C1 and isn't road tax cheaper on the C1?

I've got a nice C1 2.5 V6 for sale not too far from you in Staffordshire

Thanx for the advice on road tax.just been on parkers guide and your right.for a c1 its £118.00 for a c2 its £143.00 this is for the 2.0 zetec.hmm i think it may be a c1 taking everything into account.thanx for the offer by the way but i'm going for the 2.0 in silver.(hopefully).

I'm happy with the looks of both but the C2 interior is a big improvement on the C1, especially the front seats.

I've got the best of both worlds, owning both a C1 and C2.

This is a real chalk or cheese or marmite issue here, Manos has both a C1 and a C2 in his collection (both V6's and both silver) i've got a silver C2 and have owned it since 2004 so i'm a litle biased
As for Scunny and Everton well...both former V6 C2 owners who now drive Zetec 4x4 C1's so they are biased too

Mine's a C2, registered in January 2001 (so £118 for 6 months road tax), on 63k miles (and automatic). I've looked at a few C1s in the last few weeks and the C2s seats (at least the leather ones I have) appear to last a lot longer.

My front seats are not far off perfect but even in lower mileage C1s in my experience you're likely to find damage to the bolster on the driver's seat. I also found a C1 near Stonehouse that's advertised as in good condition (!) on eBay for £1795 (82k miles) where the driver's seat is just completely knackered; poor condition leather and the stuffing appears to have disappeared!

The other thing I noticed about the C2 is that the rear seats don't seem to be quite as 'bucket' shaped; the bottom seems a little flatter. That's about it in the interior, unless you care about about the having the grey (C1) switch panel instead of black (C2) and darker dials.

Also, in my C2, the stereo is a 6006E which has the multichanger facility built-in rather than having a separate unit that takes up space in the boot.

As for looks, well, I can't see a lot of difference in the lights to be honest but I prefer the C1 front bumper; I just think it looks much more cat-like :)

This is the thing.........

C1......... Better front bumper and fogs.
C2......... Better seats and switch gear.

It is as simple as that. If I was you, I would try to get a C2 and swap the front bumper. You then have the best of both cars.
