Just a few pics to show everyone what can happen with oil starvation on a Duratec lump!
Just because...........the Duratec loves oil
firstly the engine has to be removed and stripped...first the top end....

Then......the bottom end.....

By the way......this is what happens to the oil!!!! Yep thats metal!!!

Which in turn kills this big end journal.....

This is a close up so you can get a real good look!! One of the big end shells had forced its way round the jounal overlapping the other one by about 90%

So the moral of this story ladies n gents is.....WATCH YOUR OIL!!!
I was lucky, i had a warranty, some wont be so lucky....and thats expensive!!!! Good luck boys n girls!! 8)

whhooppss..... just think though all those extra grooves in the bearing journal could help the oil get round more efficiently

Please don't remind me. I still have to pay for my new engine.

:D Not for just newbies thanks for the reminder check once a week it's definately worth not having the aggro or expence.

I check all my fluids regularly, :D  :?

but, while were on the topic of oil.... changing mine in the near future and I read before that its best to use the ford oil filter and oil (5w30). I was wondering where the best place is to get it? Go direct to Ford Parts place or is there somewhere else?

Rach

you could always get yourself an Oil Pressure/Oil Temperature Dial to check on the engine while your driving......just remember to fit the bloody things not keep them in the box's like I have  DOH :!: (not saying there is anything wrong with my engine)

Hi Rach :) Well there has been quite a debate on the topic of which oil to use. Do a search and you should find it easily enough http://www.ukcougarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=15535&highlight=oil ;)
Good quality filters should be the norm, DEFINITELY 5W30 oil though! Now as to the make.... many here do go for Ford's own, others prefer specialist manufacturers such as Duckhams, Castrol etc. In the end its personal preference as with most things in life

Jaguar do a 5w30 semi synthetic oil which is slightly higher spec than the ford one, it is made by Havoline for Jaguar

Ok so I don't know what on earth those pics were all about but I do know they were scarey judging by the comments posted. My wee spanner has been shining for a few weeks now.. think I shall book the car in for a service and a thorough going over before I have to post up bad photographs like those!

Never good to see a engine like that in that state.

Any idea what its gona cost to put rite? and how long your gona be off the road?
