Identification plate on strut housing

Thanks, Should the build date be the same as registration date a car built September 99 and UK registered in March 2000.

Sam, the build date will give no indication of the registration date. Many Cougars hung around in dealers and stock pounds for months and even years in some cases; one of the reasons for the overlap in C1 and C2 registrations.

I had a car built in November '97 that didn't hit the road until September '08. It spent all that time sitting on an airfield.

If you can do an enhanced HPI check, you can find out whether your car was sat around, run for (up to) 89 days by a dealer as a staff/demo car, or hit the road fresh.

I know mine was around for a few months before it was 'born' on my 26th birthday.

If you look up the car on Ford's Etis site it will show you the terriory it was built for.(y)

hmmm "we are sorry, but no information could be found for the VIN/Registration number you entered"

My ID plate says...

Aproval No ***** category MA
FORD MOTOR COMPANY
FORD COUGAR 1 [ COUPE ]
GVM SEATS 4

sep/99 VIN **
This vehicle was manufactured to comply with the motor vehicle standards act 1989

The 1989 act is Australian so would the car have had to be Australia to get this ID badge?

I'm sure that's been on eBay a while back. Definitely not a Ford colour that was available on the Cougar.

Spoke to Ford where it had first few services like FA said to do, they don't think it came from there and do think it was an import, they said it was common to import cars from Europe because they were cheaper at the time but didn't know about the Oz prices.

This is the ID plate

Are the clocks in KMH or MPH? If they're MPH and it is an Aussie, they've obviously been changed and the mileage may not be accurate.
Did you try phoning (or emailing) an Aussie dealer to try and verify the VIN and maybe some history?

MPH and it was in the UK by first service 10k in 2002, it's got fsh after that it is just the first bit, no red line on rev counter though but everything else makes it look like cougar clocks.

Did send an e-mail to ford aus and ford UK said to call back Monday if i wanted to speak to admin.

Why does anyone import a car? Because they want to. DVLA or HPI should confirm when the car was imported and date of UK registration. Might not have been an Aussie. There's still a chance it was supposed to be and ended up on the wrong ship. Could have been brought in from Europe as all the RHD conversions were done there.
