Hi everyone, I’m looking at buying a low mileage v6 this weekend with the above reg. Does it belong to a member on here?
What would I expect to pay for one with around 40k on? It’s been sat for many years but recently MOTed again.
look forward to your replies.

Hello and welcome to the forum. (y)
That reg. isn't in our Owners reg. list but that doesn't mean it hasn't at some point been owned by a member.
How much are they asking for it?

It’s an auction so there’s no price, it looks in good condition inside and out, I’m just curious about how far to bid. Also if I win I’ll be driving it 200 miles home which after over 10 years it’s done 50 miles so I’m just deciding what’s best to do.

Looking at the MOT with the tyre condition and the fact its not been far in a while its probably safest to give it a good check over and service before driving it too far as you don't know what else may need replacing. Low mileage is no guarantee of it being in good condition, id sooner have a car that's used regular and looked after.
Difficult to put a price on it without seeing it but at present they aren't making a lot of money and good ones are getting thin on the ground.
I sold a good V6 late last year for £1400 and it needed nothing doing as Id done everything to it.

In an ideal world, you could hire a car trailer for a day for about £75, but of course, need someone with a suitable vehicle / towbar. Bearing in mind how MOT advisories tend to cover themselves, I would be prepared to drive it carefully for 200 miles on quiet roads to get it home. Again I would want a mate to bring my car back and accompany me., plus a few tools and towing bar, jump leads etc., etc.

Without knowing the current condition its hard to put a price on it. I have bought two cats, both 'W' reg and around 130k on the clocks, one for £300 about 4 years ago but poor paintwork and mostly original and the other a much loved and modded car for £1100 about 2 years back. Both currently require work. Any pics / weblinks we can look at ? I hope you can get it for a good price....

Had a quick look at the video, it looks like the passenger side rear arch has been painted over along the edge leading down to the sill where they normally rust so may be hiding issues but it hard to tell on a video.

It looks to be a different colour but may be a trick of the light but the guy does whizz past it quite quickly. I have bought cars before off pictures and they can hide a multitude of sins, it does look quite good though but i would sooner inspect a car myself before parting with my money unless you know the owner and it's full history.

The gear knob is Ford but non-standard in the Cougar, the handbrake is the later one with the chromed button and the front floor mats are very rare and much sought after. (y)

I didn't look at that Andy, I'm supposed to be on an online learning course at the moment so only had a quick look for rust 😂😂😂

So is it the wrong handbrake? I noticed the gearknob, looks like it’s split which for 40k is strange.

On a car that age you will always find issues, you will need to budget for new tyres and a good service. The water pump belt often gets over looked as it's under a cover, buttons to buy but make a mess if they snap, probably worth doing water pump as well. Not appears to give it a clean bill of health underneath as subframe rots out and getting harder to source. It generally looks tidy, set yourself a budget if you want it and don't go over it.
Brilliant cars, I'm now on my 8th, had seven V6 and now in a breathed on Zetec.

That car was built in July '99 and those handbrake levers weren't fitted until early '00.
There does look to be a split in the gear knob which, IIRC, was offered as an accessory for the Cougar. It's possible the previous owner just wanted to do a couple of mods by changing the knob and handbrake?

It's worth what you want to pay really, personally think 2k is steep.
Like Andy says there's a few on eBay at silly money but they don't sell. There was one on there and auto trader with low miles at 5k, it's now at 3k.
Also factor in what you will need to spend on it.

That Ebony C2 at £2695 and it's got rot at the base of the rear screen - makes you wonder where else it has it.
