My Aeroplane

Now you had to take that too far - why on earth anyone would want a silky smooth spool spinning away producing loads of power for very little fuel when you can have a big cast lump with pistons and conrods clattering about inside and camshafts banging valves about I'll never know

Shame the PFA don't allow turbines

Yeah Matt's been there too

I think turbines would take too much abuse from the average PPL. Piston engines are much more forgiving of mishandling....

Never worked on axial flow turbines but I've seen plenty "souveniers" from them. Had a fair tinker on a few centrifugal turboprops though (PT6s and PW120 series). Got to pull an engine out of an ATP following a bird strike.

Seen plenty photos of bird damage but it was amazing to see what a mess a seagul can make first hand

The idea of a jet appeals to the little boy in everyone but no, you're quite right, I wouldn't actually be interested in owning one. Too much like hard work (and ?ú?ú?ú?ú?ú?ú?ú?ú) for amateur flying.

i've seen what rags can do to an intake aswell.......

and the result of a bird strike through a cockpit on a gazelle.....not a pretty sight

I've seen what a mess undercarriage pins make to a Tornado engine when sucked through the aux air doors. Someone left the pin bag on top of the main u/c doors and did a full blast engine run.... with no aux doors guards on.....silly boy! And no, it twas not I.

Also try cleaning the inside of a Tornado cockpit when a bird had gone through the screen......... Tornados at speed liquidize birds very effectively!

Bet those pins made a mess of that RB199 Wight

My father's friend sucked someone through a Conway attached to a VC-10 years ago when BA had them with red tails. The engine didn't even stop :? Just a few fluctations on the N1........

The guy was on the headset and walked under the wing root to have a look for leaks during a high power ground run........ picked him right up off the ground

On a lighter note - a big box full of AN nuts, bolts and washers just arrived for my wing brackets and undercarriage.....

Can anyone suggest the type of retailer etc where I can buy syringes tomorrow???

My bolts arrived and now I want to glue the wing spars into the fuselage. The glue must be injected - and I forgot to order syringes

They're free on the NHS or various charity organisations.
Check eBay also.
:D

Just tell them you need to inject some heroin into your balls and they're free. Stop being all technical man.

HOLY HELL

On that note, I wouldn't go into the doctors asking for them "whether they're sterile or not".

Doctor says no.

Just had chance to catch up with this!! What a project!! Fair play Jamie, that's some serious craftmanship. Look forward to seeing it throught the stages until it's air born.

Higher than anything? It'll probably end up being like a cheap permanent viagra :-D
