Rebirth of my COUGAR (WIP)

They are the cam.....sprockets whatever they're called.....

So you'll be running them with no cover I assume (or you won't seem them)?

Aha, is that what they are....hmmmm...cool....but as you say...they won't be on display...will they?...not unless Al has found a cam cover that is made of perspex so you can see through it?????

Vernier camshaft pulleys. With these fitted in place of the oem pulleys i can fine tune that pair of Newman fast road cams i've got in there. The top cover will stay firmly "OFF" but you switched a little light on in my brain with your perspex idea Tim

Tim you're a bad man.....switching little lights on in Al's head

On the perspex theme.....cam cover :)

Plenty of Loctite 222 on those once you dialled em in mate ;-) betcha cant wait lol

Met up with Rik tonight at Newark, hence the late entry :),he kindly brought me a micrometer dial guage :), so i have the verniers, and the the micro, now all i need is the torque dial guage and we'll be buzzing (y)
Loctite at the ready ;)

I now have all i need to get the job done:), all i'm really short of now is a motivational kick up the backside to go out and do it. I'm feeling very idle lately
I know i'll get the kick once i get out there and lift the bonnet (y)
Ok, one point to note is, the cams are NOT keyed to the shafts. I was unsure but there is definately no Mr Woodruff involved here.
Thanks again to Rik for the loan of the micro dial guage and it's a good old imperial one (y)

Nicked from elsewhere

My thoughts are these should be avoided.
Our cam gears are friction fit, no alignment pin/dowel (not a good move on Fords part IMO). But beside that there is the off chance of the cam gear slipping, one fastener and limited surface area can only sustain so much HP (what that limit is I've no clue, curious though).
So, you want the most surface area possible between the cam gear and the cam and a good fastener to ensure they stay tight (and the fastener load should be spread over a large area evenly, as the stock bolt does).
The AEM only has 3 bolts holding the center section to the outer. Probably won't slip, I've never heard of one slipping. But I'm wary and just wouldn't risk it.

Make sure you use a decent BEARING RETAINER Al, i think threadlock may struggle
