So odd request. Does anyone happen to have pictures of a UK car shell inside the car? Ive had this idea that keeps resurfacing in my head for years now of converting a US car to where I at least sit on the right side of the car. What I need is pictures of the firewall area with all its bits for the pedals and stuff. What really brought the idea back up was taking the interior out and seeing the firewall in mine.
I also need pics of a UK car with the engine out so I can see the steering set up. Thanks to all that can help.

That helps some. I need similar to these but without the black padding inside and better quality under the bonnet

sorry mate i dont have any pics but i do know you'll need somethings u dont have on your (US)cars..

the brake servo is still in the same place as ours but its actuated by a bloody big bar that goes from our pedals through the fire wall and across to the servo under the bonnet ,ur gonna need this.

the pedals should just swap over and the only other issue is the steering rack..
looking at your picture i never realised that the fuse box(inside) is crammed up there with the clutch pedal...

dont know if the heater fan etc is reversible...something you'll have to try i guess.

hope some of this helps(y)

Theres quite a bit I think I would need. The odd thing is all the indentions are in the firewall for RHD. From looking at Alans thread earlier it looks like most everything back from the dash is in the same spot. Definitely helps

There was a Dutch guy who did a nut and bolt restore of his cougar and took loads of photos, I personally think you would be better off buying a RHD and swapping the bits from yours
Youre right. Would be easier and probably cheaper. But then I end up with a ford cougar, instead of the only RHD Mercury cougar I know about. Built not bought Yo!!!!! Seriously though. The hard stuff is on the proper side. Engine, trans, brake system. If its just a matter of taking my car apart AGAIN, punching a couple holes in the firewall, and putting Uk stuff in, that to me doesn't sound like enough work to warrant buying and shipping an entire car. At this point with the interior of my car I can gut the inside on friday and have it back together for monday. This ideas been going for me since like 2010 so eventually its gonna happen.

Yeah its pretty though. What got me thinking about it again was seeing this when I took my interior out. You can see where the steering column goes through for RHD. The bolts higher up look to be in the correct spots too. If its just a matter of swapping the steering rack, dash, column, dash brace, and a harness or two then thats a totally doable mod

You'd probably want to get hold of a RHD driver's seat as well, unless you're happy to lose the powered controls...

The floor loom can be adapted though - Paul Shirtyzeus has done kind of the opposite (fitting a powered seat to his passenger side just for funzies) and I think the only thing he needed was a power feed? Everything else is already there.

Yeah eventually. Power seat isn't a high priority on the list

Well aside from the steering rack I have spares of all the rest you would need, I wonder how much shipping and duties would cost

Steering rack shouldn't be to hard to source. I think the main piece I would need to get everything sorted for fitment would be the steel pipe behind the dash everything bolts to. Im coming up on a new job soon we might have to figure something out.

It varies from 0% to 37.5% depending on what it is. It'll be an average of 5.6% of monetary value, but that depends on whether they inspect what you're sending.

It also depends on whether they can be bothered to find out what you charged the US buyer. For a small sale like this - a couple hundred bucks - they'll probably let it go, so 0%. Done deal.

Tax in the US is absolutely usurious (which is hilarious since it was introduced to fund the Civil War) but they generally don't try to trap the little guy. Hope this helps.

if you mean the big black bar that the dashboard sits over then i think you can just move the support brackets across for the airbag and the airbag ecu, this is the only picture i have from when i changed my Loom but there doesn't seem to be much attached to it

I was thinking the front of the pedal assembly bolts to it too. Im not sure I would be comfortable relocating the airbag bracket. My luck if it ever activated my dash would explode.

So if I got the UK heater box complete and the wiring harness for the dash Id have that cool auto climate setup you all have as well too wouldn't I?

Is your fuse panel under the airbag?

Of course that's "tax" to the US Revenue for goods being brought into the US. Tax has already been paid to the UK Revenue when it was shipped into the UK (via Germany) from the US; morally that should be refunded (especially if the US tax that wasn't charged when it was exported is now being charged) when it leaves....
