Saving Cougars

I am lead to believe it is the first car, pre production, yes it is that car. I have some photos but they are not very good, i must say it is in poor condition now, needs work doing, has been sat for a few years, but started first time when i tried it. My dad has owned it for the last 5-6 years.

Hi I live in dukinfield but work in Stockport and I come from Barnsley lol only been here 2 years and seen 2 other cougars a blue one and a silver one id like to meet up and talk cougars lol

All Cougars need saving IMO. It just needs nutters like a few of us on here to throw some time, effort and money at them. This one may not be worth much now but when they reach 'classic' status, this one could command a higher value.
I'm glad it looks like it's going to a good home.

This one will for sure in years to come as it has real history that can be traced. If any Cougar in the future becomes valuable as a classic then this one car will trump any car that has ever been built in this country if kept totally standard and restored to factory condition. This was one car that I was interested in buying and storing away for a future project as I know it would be come a valuable car in the future and a good investment. I have got to be honest I am tempted myself as it is not that far away from me either.

Looks like it will be coming into club hands one way or the other. Good work chaps.
I'm sure the new owner will be able to find some high-waisted stonewashed jeans to complete the 'Clarkson Look' ;)

I am the other side in partington but not that far away

I have bought this 'special' Cougar, and am glad that it will remain in the Club.:)
Thank you to Lee and his Dad for the sale.
I welcome any further info on this car in due course, particularly relating it's preproduction status,
cheers,
Wil

I didn't want to say anything in the previous threads but this is hardly a 'preporduction' car as it had been on sale in the USA for several months before the UK launch. I expect it would have been well prepared and regularly valeted/serviced between press reviews though. But totally ragged by the press. Lol

One thing I did notice in the 'press' cars is the insert in the gear stick had a black background (like the Mondeo version) as opposed to the grey background.

Well done Wil. (y)

The VIN should give us some pointers as to how early it's build number was in those destined to be sold outside of the US.

Hi Andy,

VIN WF0HT61L5X5200002

Ford site shows
Build date: 15/08/1998
First reg: 07/08/1998
??

I have spoken with the previous owner Dale, and he kindly gave me the following info:

There were 4 pre launch vehicles;
2LHD
2RHD - 1 Melina (now scrapped)
1 Silver (R883 HAR)

So, it seems that this is a 'unique' Cougar, and therefore even more important that it is preserved.
In a way I already feel a degree of 'responsibilty', but you know I will do all I can to save the car.
Any more info on it is most welcome,
cheers,
Wil
