Shed to show in 2 months..

No he sprays it on an old jig so he can get the sills without doing his back in. It's like a hydraulic table

There's a bodyshop up this way has a similar thing - it's like a spit, they can tilt a fully built car 30 degrees in each direction so the paint goes on flat under sills/valances etc (y)

Good show! Should be standard practice everywhere but it never will be :( there'll always be divs painting that will go "no one looks under the sill apart from the MOT tester" - Arses!

Bob, looking at your Coug stripped down (rear of car), what are those two vent looking things on the left and right just above the bumper? Are they breathers for something?? I can't begin to think what they are for????

Vents into the boot fella

Bob, still DO IT!! Lol

Tim, really? How did you not know cars had vents?

Kully, I'm pretty useless when it comes to stuff that is hidden by the bodywork. I've never stripped a car in my life, so don't know what maybe lurking underneath it all. The thing is with me is that I get too impatient when doing stuff and end up breaking bits, so I'd rather not play with mine, other than basic stuff as can't afford to put stuff right when I have broken them lol. I can see I have lots to learn....but there again, I'm just an old fart!! lol

They're exterior speakers Tim. There to warn off anybody following too close

It's pretty obvious that cat is going in for the professional treatment (y)

well i had the pleasure of seeing a car today that has A) been painted at the same place Rob's is at, and B) is the same colour as Rob has gone for.......and wow.

Excellent finish, and stunning colour

Very jealous

that's something for Rob to reveal if he sees fit Matt....i have a rough idea, but I do know Rob has done a lot of the prep work himself.

The car i saw the colour on today was a Nissan Skyline, and it was lovely.

Had a little go as the passenger in it too......what a machine.

Cat4 is off to the same place in the not too distant :) but the work i am after is not quite as extensive, so a completely different deal.

I can't imagine prices will vary that much Matt. £1000 will buy you a doors shut respray with minimal prep work done. £6000 will buy you a strip down, corrosion correction and a lovely respray.

£2000 will normally buy you a fairly straight forward respray with some prep work done.

If it's below the lower figure I'd be very suspicious, and if it's higher than the £2k figure you should find out exactly what's included for and compare it to other bodyshops' quotes.

Paint doesn't get cheaper as time goes on, but labour rates vary depending on the local economy. As Si says, it looks as though Rob has done a lot of work himself, so whatever figure he is being charged is going to be to focus on the actual painting itself.

Look forward to seeing it done :)

My respray is costing £1100.

For that I am having done..

engine bay
door shuts
boot shuts
both sides of bonnet
both sides of boot
asda rash removing
crease in the door removing
rust sorting on wings
rust sorting on boot under seal
behind rear bumper painting in colour matched stonechip
sideskirts fitting and blending
exhaust moving to fit kit
mesh fitting to kit
bumpers fitting up and securing
rear badge holes removing
3rd brakelight plated/ filled out
basically everything external and under bonnet will be white. the only remaining blue will the the interior floor pan and bulkhead.

for that price I had too..

fit the kit as much as I could to check for fit and mark where needed adjusting/trimming up
remove all the panels and trim as you see in the pictures above.

price will go down a bit more if I then go down to help put the car back together.

Its not an expensive paint job at all as far as some of the quotes I have seen but the quality of what rolls out of there is top notch.
