What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Made a start to replacing my sub-frame. Did not realise it was such a PITA. Had to strip the rear interior to get to the connectors for the ABS sensors. Got passenger side wheel station out so far. Had to cut the handbrake cable off as it was rusted in place. Broke the brake pipe trying to get that disconnected. Good job I am going to replace them all.

Sorry Dick I know you've already started on this route...if you just remove the four radius arms from the hub you don't need to touch any of that.

Moved her so that Jinxy could come out of the garage for the run to Gaydon tomorrow.

Jinxy is a lot like Tiger; as long as she's kept on charge she starts on the first crank. Tiger is now on my neighbour's drive (he's on holiday) and Jinxy is set to run. Really looking forward to it!

Yay Jinxy ;)

I have not got it galvanised yet. Took it to a place in Cumbernauld and they said they would do it for 50 quid. Told me I could bring other bits too for the same price as it all goes in one basket. The only problem was he told me to get it stripped first, i.e. get all the paint off of it. Going to get the ARB brackets beefed up a bit as well cos I have a 21mm ARB.

Had a good clean and polish today

Fromm my post 3957.
Saturday, check voltage reading on battery with and without engine running, no difference. My other car has higher voltage when engine running indicating alty output. Diagnosis, Alty problem chances are just the regulator.
Sunday, chuck her into the garage and lift her up with the jack until I can place the ramps under the wheels. Inspect underneath. That front to rear under engine exhaust link pipe has gotta come off. Plan is to remove just the regulator from the alty and get it tested. If it's shot I'm going to make a plug out of the old one make up a wiring harness and mount the rectifier some where more accessible and away from the exhaust heat.
Monday, remove the exhaust link pipe, disconnect battery, disconnect main alty connection to give me a better view of the target.
Notice the plug onto the rectifier unit is very loose, possibly even not contacting at all. the retaining spring is missing. Could this be my problem ?
I'll need to do a part reassembly to test. Which muppet fitted that, oh yeah, me.

Mabo, the alternator doesn't need to be that much of a PITA, especially if it hasn't been in there for very long. The trick is having the right extensions.
