What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

New Kumho 225`s fitted, now have a matching set

Wired secondaries open to see the difference, it is huge!

If anybody has a working IMRC please sell it to me, the one I fitted from my ebony doesn`t seem to work on Sheila :cautious:

I have 2 Rik, unsure of operation, more than welcome to try?

Might take you up on that offer Ricky

Have you got yours running properly now,?I am a little concerned about running with secondaries open all the time, does go well though!

Pm me your addy and ill get them off in the post today :) I think its the coil leads are nackard on mine with a mix of random sized spark pligs, spark plugs are now new and gapped to 1.0mm so I will take her out shortly to see :)

Old school! Pour some good ol fashioned REDEX in and leave it to soak overnight. Go for a foggy drive tomorrow ;)

Does that work? Like the hole bottle split across for 12 pots?

Thats what my SVT lower looked like when I got Jane, except for the holes in mine had gotten bored out to be larger [emoji3]. as for the valves, I think you may have to at least pull the head. Have you tried wiping it out with a rag on the end of a screwdriver or something similar?

Yeah I tried the rag, moved a little but still very gunked up...
I am a little more insterested in boring out the LIM though... research time :)

Spent a couple of hours underneath my Cougar today, wire-brushing and slapping on some Hydrate 80. It seems like the factory underseal is still in pretty decent shape and doing its intended job well, so I didn't really have to put all that much on. A coat of Dynax UB is next, probably on Sunday.

Gave me an excuse to try out my new toy too: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/ctj3000g-3-tonne-professional-garage-j/, birthday present from my parents - complete overkill really but it lifts the car like it wasn't even there and feels way safer than my little old cheapie Halfords jack while doing so. Bloody heavy though!

Haven't even touched her in two days. Tracey is up at Wroxall Abbey for Roverfest, so I've been using Blue to go back and forth to Wroxall and Gaydon (I'm acting as a marshal for them) because the diesel is free...

I'm almost tempted to take Tiger to the main meet at Wroxall tomorrow because Fords gotsta represent.

Incidentally, we've been doing events at Wroxall and Gaydon today, as well as cruises and driving skill tests. There's going to be over 520 cars on display there tomorrow so if you fancy coming along - in whatever you drive - please do! Tickets are £9 at the gate.

Pulled the water pump. Had to hacksaw blade one of the 8mm head bolts off after I managed to slip off and round the head. the remaining stud came out with my fingers.
Pulling the pump I found a plastic impeller in pretty good nick, no play on the shaft but a little stiffer than I'd expect.
The steel guide disc fell out and looks to have been in contact with the impeller but no damage done.
So what's the best solution, fixing the disc in place Araldite ? self tappers ? or throw it away. Do I refit the plastic impeller pump or is a metal impeller a better option?
Off to Google to research.

You might as well fit a shiny new metal one in whilst its all apart.
Just chuck the metal disc.

Started a long needed cleaning process

metal impeller pump bought from usual internet site.
Bit undecided about the disc, it must contribute to the flow ?

It does, yes.

Some here have gone without it and not had any obvious problems, but it definitely contributes to the flow. I wish Paul was around because he has a great explanation of what it does. In his case, he welded it in place.

Back under mine this morning for a coat of Dynax UB. There's still more to do (under the arches, and I need to check out how it looks behind the rear bumper), but I'm happy with the start I've made - overall, she's in good shape underneath, hopefully this will help keep her that way.

Spent a little time with the wire brush in the drill removing the loose stuff revealed by lifting the plastic from under the battery to better access the water pump. I knew the surface rust was there it was just a case of getting around to it. I spy a patch under the air box so need to get under there too.
On the water pump Paul welded it in place ? Given that the disc looks to be steel and the body of the pump is alloy welding it will require a skill set higher than I possess. Considering Araldite or a similar epoxy adhesive, will need to be very clean of the greasy feeling coolant to be sure of a good bond.

Finished off treating the underside of my car today. Spent days wire brushing, treating with 2 coats Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, spraying with Force Zinc Galv primer then a couple of coats of hammerite paint. I still have to spray the complete underside with Gravitex stone chip paint. Cleaned up the fuel lines with a wire brush and treated them with Hydrate 80 and Zinc primer. All looking good now and almost ready to start putting her all back together. Just waiting on my neighbour welding new ARB mounts on to my new subby then I can get that along with my trailing arms, axle beams and tank straps off to be galvanised. Between the rain storms I have rebuilt both rear wheel stations with new Calipers, new splash guards, new flexi cables and all new bushes in the knuckles. All wire brushed and treated and painted ready to go.

Mine has been sat on the drive since Friday afternoon. I've been driving back and forth to Gaydon and Wroxall in T's Passat R, which is simply amazing.

So I had to move Tiger so that Jinxy could get back in her garage, and I discovered that after 250 miles in the Passat, the Cougar is a product of her time:

1) The throttle is ridiculously heavy.

2) The power assistance of all systems is rubbish.

3) Your bum is on the floor.

4) I love my Cougar.
