What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

You'll be glad you went the whole hog when you're rocking along to Absolute '80s ;)

You know, apart from the reversing camera, the DAB stations are why I want a full double-DIN unit. Yes you can get a single-DIN DAB but if I'm going to go big, I'm going to do it right.

I bought this thing because my existing one was totally dead and it was less than the cost of a night out.

I like it. I just need all the buttons and gizmos after driving the wife 2016 turbo civic.

Tiger is a late-90s relic and that's okay. I get jealous of Blue's kit but... if I need it, she's right there.

Between you and me, as much as I love the equipment on these new cars, a late 90s fuel-injected motor is my sweet spot. The perfect balance between equipped, tunable and reliable.

I totally agree on reliability. Until you megasquirt it.

The mid box exit pipe weld has cracked. It's not blowing as such but it is making more of a rasping sound at appx 2.5k - 3k rpm, ideal gearchange area for my zetec so it gets a bit annoying. Most when cold, as the system heats up it tends to quieten due to expansion i should think. They asked to keep it overnight so they can start it from cold in the morning and get a listen for themselves but they already know about the crack so that'll be done under the lifetime guarantee anyway.

Exhaust is done. It was just as stated above, exit pipe from mid box rewelded and they also fitted a small skid plate. Not had a look yet but DG was done and on level ground when i went up to collect.

Made some progress on mine but not loads. With the subframe dropped some corrosion was revealed on the mounting area. Saturday afternoon I attacked it with the angle grinder and 'leccy drill fitted with wire brush. I moved the copper brake pipes carefully aside and filled the garage with ferrous dust.
I then brushed on loads of corrosion treatment. Next job will be some primer.
Think I've decided not to drop the fuel tank. The brake pipes are copper so no problem there, exploring with a torch above it there is no sign of any corrosion. The tank filler pipe is not the best but I'm still undecided on a solution.
By the time I finished Mrs Mabo was amazed at how I appeared. Looked like I'd done a 12 hour shift in a coal mine.
At least all the angle grinding and flying sparks is done so I can now figure out how to remove the filler pipe without risk of igniting the fumes with a spark from the grinder !

I'm afraid you'll have to drop the fuel tank to remove filler pipe, it goes into the tank about 100mm, theres not enough room above to pull it out of the tank without doing this.

My coug is now officially SORN. Will try and put it back on the road next year. I do intend on trying to get a few of the many jobs that need doing.

Spent half an hour with brush on primer tonight working on yesterdays treated areas. I also removed one of the tank straps to pass to a colleague to make some replacements. Spent yesterday evening researching removal of the filler pipe.
I agree tank will need to be lowered but I fully expect the pipe to crumble as soon as it's tampered with. This set of works was started with an alternator problem and developed from there hence given the spontaneous starting point the tank is half full of fuel which will make the weight a nuisance. There is an argument that a full tank is safer than an empty one. The fumes are easier to ignite than the solid mass of liquid fuel.
I know the fumes ignite easily from past experience, I was OK, my eyebrows grew back!
