What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Did you follow the guide from Topcat Sam?

If so and you adjusted the caliper up tight then it needs driving a few miles to release the bind
I think I did, there certainly didn't appear to be much scope to adjust further. Saying that I was more rushed on getting it all back together again for the light, so maybe I'll have another go tomorrow now the worst is over as it were.

That's a big job Mick :)

LOL I really need to do mine. It's been on there for at least 6 years (from when I bought her) and I have no idea how long it was on there before.

Kind of hoping that because it doesn't squeal in the winter, it's not going to do anything catastrophic in the near future, :)edit: yes I realise it is self-tensioning and therefore getting thinner and thinner...).

My waterpump belt is new though.

Fitted the sensor and changed the hose (Thanks to Andy) flushed and topped up with antifreeze. Also fitted the tinted light lenses, happy with the result so far, will do the tailgate one when I get time.

Looks good, another option if you don't want the faff of removing the centre light is one of Alan's brake light masks.

To fit those correctly, (lining it up, getting it wrapped around the edges and applying heat to make sure it stays there) I feel that it's better to remove the light anyway.

Removing the unit can definitely be a pain; the worst part is removing the black part inside. But trust me, it's worth it to get everything perfectly lined up and wrapped around so that none of the corners lift.

Managed to get the 3rd brake light lens in, as everybody said what a PITA.
We should hunt down the bloke who designed that and give him a good shoeing.

I'm all in favour of that. You should hear what I have in mind for Lord Beeching who destroyed our railways ( I appreciate he is no longer with us ). Surely, that has got to be a future calendar pic hasn't it ?

Today was fun, the gearbox has been removed from the breaker and found itself going out west to Castleford. I now have a huge gap beneath the bonnet and a couple of struts in the garage. Oh, and lots of fallen rust beneath the car.

It was a huge learning experience, and Mart was very patient with me bimbling around getting in the way.

Fitted a new radiator and it appears to have solved my overheating problem. That, along with the fact that my fans are now kicking in when the radiator gets hot, seems to have been the root of my problems. While removing everything to replace the water pump and thermostat, I noticed a black wire with an eylet connection just hanging about under the battery tray. This just happened to be the earth wire for my fans and seems to have been overlooked when we done my engine swap a couple of years ago.

Amazing you traveled to Europe in that extreme heat without the fans working!! Lucky you never cooked the engine over there!!

I agree! How on earth do you do that journey without a working primary fan? Did Dick have the aircon (and therefore the secondary) running constantly?

The radiator fans on my wife's Rover 600 turbo packed in about a year before she sold it. She would notice the gauge, or the smell, or even a faint blue haze around the bonnet and realise she had to put the heater and fan on full blast rather sharpish !

I think the answer is that whilst you're driving, even slowly and even through warmish air, the fan isn't needed. It's just our crappy British roads and stop start traffic / jams / roadworks that would be an issue, which of course they don't tend to have so much of in Europe...
