What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Thanks danda :) on a side note, am i supposed to have another cutout on the light covers for reflectors for mot ?

The reflectors can be pretty much anywhere on the rear I think?
I stuck a pair of cheap eBay bike reflectors on the ends of the reg plate, doesn't stick out much and passed mot, the feds have said nowt either (y)

As a side note I haven't fiitted covers, they're spray tinted/ blacked out.
For legal reasons, I would leave some kind of reflector on there full time, wherever you decide is up to you...

When I had tinted rears on Tiger, the tint was a smoke grey and the reflectors were still easily visible (not that she ever got parked on the street at night anyway, which is when they are necessary).

Nevertheless I have gone back to the standard "OH DEAR GOD MY RETINAS!" red as from the factory and I'm keeping both of mine that way now.

Anyway, today I've contacted a local company to get Tiger's OSR resprayed because it's beginning to annoy me. The final straw: some bloke pulled up next to me at a junction yesterday morning (in Haversham - we were offside-to-offside) and was giving her admiring looks, until he saw her OSR and just pursed his lips in disapproval.

Now see, I don't care what he thinks. My car - not his. But it reinforced that the paint has been putting a downer on her for me and needs to be dealt with. So I'm just waiting for a quote...

That's what I'm hoping.

And for the avoidance of doubt? Although I will be taking Wildcat to shows in future since that's her damned job - Tiger will always come with me to 'Fest unless she's off the road for some stoopid reason (like her upcoming MOT...).

In fact, she'll be coming to 'Fest whether I get the respray in time or not. That's our weekend together chilling.

I take it that's a Zetec specific thing as I don't recognise that part. But good on you to tackle this and I hope your feeling a little better.

Always good to keep a hand in, but its nice to choose when and not be pushed into it by circumstances ( or when its raining ! )

Is that red thing a bearing press perchance Al ?

Great to hear from you, Al.

Tiger has also thrown that bush...over a year ago. I really need to find outwhether it's an orange or red one and just get on with it.

I'll have a look in the morning, but tomorrow is all about Jinxy for the BMC rally on Sunday...

One of mine failed a little while. I'd noticed the gearchange had got sloppy and found the loose fir if the component whilst underneat doing something else.
12 ton press ! you cold do some damage with that. When you first got it did you crush things just because you could?

Well I've managed to kill my car after deciding to hoover it..... How did I manage that you ask? Let's find out!

The weather looking dicey, I changed my plans to something I could easily walk away from should it decide to rain. Hence a quick and long over due clean inside, especially the hoovering. Once there I remembered my USB OBD reader had arrived from Tunnelrats so thought I'd have a go, and found a couple of errors; more on those later, but one was IMRC stuck open. 'Right,' I proclaim to myself 'I have a spare from the scrapper I'll switch them over and see what's what'.

All going well aside from a concern over oil (I'll post about that later in my project thread), until I come to start it up and notice a distinct lack of feel in the throttle. Fires up and ticks over, but the throttle does virtually nowt. Under the bonnet and it revs more when fully open, but nothing before that. I remove the bellows for a better look and see this...

Throttle linkage.JPG

If not clear, that's the little plastic link on the throttle body that's snapped cleanly through the middle (the one that's like a figure 8). Basically it means I'm getting no opening of the TB now.

****.

I'm having a beer while I decide on my next move. I think I have the majority of things needed for the ST220 upgrade. I need to go into the loft and set everything out, but I know for sure I need the TB to UIM gasket. I guess I'll be posting up later to see what's missing and see if it's something I can tackle on my lonesome.

B*****ks.

Yep, it sure is!

The problem with the ST220 bits is I really wanted to do a proper job on the LIM, injectors etc, and I simply don't have the time or ability right now. Decisions decisions.....

Here's hoping. So bloody annoying, just too brittle I guess. I don't mind doing the upgrade, it's in the plans, but the timing couldn't be worse.

Edited to add;

I'm now contemplating a Heath Robinson solution involving two cable ties.... o_O

Sam if you have all the other bits you can buy sheets of gasket to make your own. You might as well go ahead with the whole thing now, if the car is off the road already.

It's certainly an option Matt.

I need to go in the loft and go through boxes to see what I have first and then decide. I am off Thursday and Friday next week, although that's supposedly to get ready for our holiday next Saturday. Having my head under a bonnet sounds much more fun.

Sam, if you're going to do what I think you're going to do, start the car and let it get up to temperature (and therefore a natural idle in closed loop). Just in case.

As for the TB gasket, I highly recommend one of these - though check the compatibility/aperature first. I've only used them on ST220s, and I'm not sure if the slots/vents on the ST220 are the same.

Ah right; I thought I had to do the LIM.

I can just get away with the TB, how does it go on the UIM, I thought they were different shapes? I like the sound of this as I can whack on the airbox too!
