The US C2 grill has a round Cougar Head badge as opposed to the Ford Blue Oval.
That happened to me on my Zetec once as well. The difficult access makes it worse.
I'm not a mechanic, not an expert, but as far as I can see the instruction "hand-tight" is kind of insufficient. A little bit inexact for my taste. Glad you caught it in time.
well this weekend I have removed the engine, fitted new power steering pipes, a new alternator, a new starter motor, stainless headers, new brake servo and master cylinder and 2 drive shaft gaiters, refitted the engine and started it on first turn 
just got to bleed the brakes and clutch tomorrow after work and finish fitting my stainless exhaust
