What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

MOT *fail*
Require;
1) r/h bottom ball joint.
2) Three tyres.

1.is in the hands of work colleague sideline keeping cheap cars running and 2. has four tyres on order for tomorrow (little point keeping a fairly worn one on, but might keep it for a spare).

Tester did comment that it seemed pretty good otherwise(y)

Drove it more than 6 feet on the way back from an MOT fail - by god the noise under steam is good in the V6! As is it's ability to make me laugh! Lots to do, but it deserves it.

Sidelight out that was fine when I checked it before the MOT - they fail at some point, and it definitely doesn't work at the moment.
Droplinks front and rear.
Wishbone rear bolt loose (could have nipped it up, miserable bugger!)

Oh, and a spectacular amount of welding needed both sides under the a-pillar. Asked the tester if it was an isopon hide job until the warmer weather sets in, or really needed pulling apart "It's really fecked mate. Don't just cover it so I can't see it."
O/S TRE has excessive play - it's brand new, but have seen the results of people overtightening them and knackering them before the car even moves.

Stack of advisories - two for tyres being close to fecked, four for pitted brakes - they would be, it hasn't moved much.

Guess what I'm doing tomorrow morning... weld.jpg

Did manage to have a test run at overtaking for Combe, though - guy I was overtaking on our private runway started accelerating because he didn't want me to go past - I hate people that do that. That's when overtaking becomes dangerous - you weren't in the mood to go quickly, I am. Why are you now trying to race me? Oh, where did you go? Oh I see, you decided to hide in my rearview mirror instead!
So small that I almost missed him hiding there. 30-90 is such a giggle in this thing! Almost felt like the power I've been missing from the Capri.

The V6 gave me the grin that only normally appears when a surprise blowjob commences. Man, I've missed a V6. I've missed braking zones that suddenly appear, too.

Emissions were spot on, though - pleased there.

Fail sheet (in the image based spirit)

#14 will be a load of jenolite being splashed around, then...

Made some holes... 5 to be precise but one was only a couple of inches so doesn't really count.20160311_085241.jpg

Patched with about 1.5 square foot of steel between them all. Made a decision to just get it on the road until summer when I can go through it without getting cold and wet.

Retest tomorrow!

Took to my mechanic colleague to have old ball joint rivets ground and drilled out, new ball joint fitted, and whilst it was on jacks change the oil filter and oil (had a slight leak mentioned at MOT suspect filter seal, mechanic found there was another turn to hand tight!).
I supplied oil and filter, he supplied ball joint and charged me.....£30 altogether! Name and address withheld:sick:, he is understandably snowed under when he's not at his proper job!

Then gave "Jet" (as in jet-black, not the former gladiator) a hand wash to look presentable for the retest.

...and loved every one of them. Also discovered the TC's party trick on islands - I'll be keeping that system after all.A bath was in order. Still not very warm out, and I live on the outskirts of Bradistan, so there's no shortage of hand carwashes."It's done. Five pounds please." "No, your signboard says wash and DRY for £5. It's not dry. I'll give you £2.50 for the half job you've done, or you can dry it." 5 minutes more of watching them continue to rub a soaking wet chamois around my car and I'm outside showing them how to use a chamois to dry a car vs smear the liquid. I think it was the first time it had ever been wrung out.

Nice one. did they give you a reduction for the training ? :)

Sadly not but I don't mind at a fiver - my sister paid me that to wash her car nearly 20 years ago, and it would have gone in the boot of a Cougar.

Cleaned my poor kitty.... You can see how rich it's been lol!
I've not seen mess like that since running my '80's V6 - she's allowed to be filthy to the point of 1200HCs, etc.

Good effort, that man! Damned good effort!

it sounded lovely when you left matt's..

i never got chance to look it over due to the work we were doin but hope to get a full tour at combe(y)

Checked her oil and coolant after the run over to Matt's. Still perfect.

Not to start yet another oil conversation, I've discovered something interesting. I used to do 6-monthly oil/filter changes and used Halfords own-brand that meets the spec. She would slowly use oil, maybe 300ML per month.

I've since switched to Magnatec and she uses none. It also stays golden, so I've extended the cycle out to a year/9000 miles.

I guess you get what you pay for. Though it's actually cheaper overall to use the Magnatec in my case.

Yeah and for the money at the moment magnatec is fairly cheap 5L at £31, :)
