What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

Swapped the carpet. Original had been cut below driver's side kick-panel to access wiring loom there, looks like a wire has been added. Shame they couldn't figure out how to roll the carpet aside.
Passenger seat slide release cable wasn't operating so replaced the whole seat, from T reg to V reg the number of connectors changed, T had yellow, green and 4-pin grey, V has yellow and 6-pin grey.
Had a look under driver's seat, can't see why tilt/slide doesn't operate like the passenger seat.
Got to fit handbrake gaitor to replacement centre console and re-install.

Nice one. Make sure its ready for Harewood(y)
There is no chance of that Matt , it will probably be in a million pieces by then. This is going to be a long term project as I will be going through everything bit by bit

I dont think the drivers seat is meant to slide

Cloth seats do, leather ones doesn't.

Correctamundo.

I suspect these are leather going on the reference to the wiring?

Not necessarily. All the seats have some form of wiring, if only for the airbags. Either way, they all have the full set of connectors (of one of two varieties, which seems to have changed in early '99). And of course the cars do too; as you know from the many cloth-to-leather conversions that have been done.

I don't know nvigo's car, but it's a Zetec so it's more likely to have cloth. Or not. Or maybe someone upgraded it at some point. I'm sure he'll be along to let us know...

Correct.
My original passenger seat has probably got the broken collar at the top of the cable that links the tilt to the slide release, and the shoulder-level tilt handle had been pulled out by someone investigating with no possibilty to reinstall.
@herak's seat has replaced it with what I believe to be correct function.
The driver's seat looks like it should do exactly the same but I can't figure out why it doesn't. I might fit it with the base from @herak's driver seat and see what works then.
Are the electric and manual seat bases interchangeable, ie. would an ex-leather seat base fit cloth seats? That might happen if I can source some; I'm not interested in "upgrading" all or part of the interior to leather.

The best bits of the two centre consoles are now installed. I found THREE armrest catches near the handbrake mechanism! Any tips for repainting the plastic gunmetal area round the handbrake etc?

That's it for this week. Next week to fit the old seat electrical connectors to the replacement seat (airbag is connected but not the seatbelt required switch).

I don't know that anyone has ever tried that. I'm trying to picture it and can't.

Are the cloth ones fully manually-adjusted, (it's been a few years since I owned a Coug with cloth seats and there were in the car for all of five minutes)? If so, I can see a potential problem with the seat-back tilt mechanism.

Unless there's some reason (weight?) that you don't want the motors, you could always strip the leather off and reskin the whole seat with your cloth?

On the cloth seats there is one motor, drivers side seat height, with a rocker switch at the front.

It would be the motors I would be after; electric slide but retaining the cloth interior. The base (the slide adjustment/drivers height) connect to the seat with only four bolts, and the slide release cable. I was assuming that the electric parts of the leather seats would still be contained in the base, but don't know the extent to whch they are motorised.

Oh, right! In that case I would definitely go with the re-skinning. It's awkward, but can be done.

I managed to do the ones on my Probe - it took me ages and I had sore hands afterwards but I think it would be a similar process.
