What Have You Done to Your Cougar Today?

The results of my experimenting with my rear lights:

As you can see, all I've really managed to achieve is to make them a little darker with an odd matte finish, and that's after 2 cans of tinting spray and 2 thirds of a can of lacquer. They look.... ok. I guess. As long as you don't look too closely.

Really tempted to just take them back off and hand them over to the paint guru at work (who's already offered to help me with them), I'm very obviously no good at this sort of thing :). Or I can leave them on for Combe so you can all point and laugh :)

Did you warm up the can and light before you did it?

Its not the end of the world if you dont like the finish, you can always sand it back and have another go (y)

This was where I went wrong I think, the spray booth at work was lovely and warm, but I drove there on a cold morning with the lights, spray, etc, in the boot. Without thinking I just went straight at it due to time constraints, I should have allowed things to warm up first.

I'm gonna have another go, with some help from a guy at work (who actually knows what he's doing). It'll probably cost me a bucket of KFC which'll be totally worth it.

After it being way long than ill ever admit I gave v650 a proper clean today

-Started with a full clean rinse and dry

-Applied poor boys black hole

-Waxed with simoniz diamond

-Autoglym glass polish to the windows inside and out.

She came up quite nice but ill be honest the paintwork is bad in some places...could do with a respray in a perfect world and some new alloys

She's a teenaged car made with mass-production techniques - and that includes the painting. You should be proud that she's held up as well as she has!

She looks absolutely cracking, especially those lights.

One tip though; remove each of the wheels and clean the inside of them with Wonder Wheels, then dress with a good-quality wheel wax/glaze that handles high temperatures, (you can do it on the car as well, but that depends on how slim you are...). I know you'd like to replace them with something different, but cleaning the inner part of the rim takes your efforts from "I cleaned my car" to "I am going to be a detailer."

By the way, how did you get on with using the Black Hole? The results speak for themselves, so I'm interested in your experience of it.

Thanks for the tip with the alloys ill give that a go ( they will defo need to come off the car though  ) ive got some real chrome rims from an old civic..I need to look into if they will fit or not though.

Applying the poor boys was easy enough went off and came off easy...although the diamond wax did a better job of hiding the swirl marks and minor scratches.

Its worth the effort, especially when your on a car park surrounded by flithy cars it really makes it stand out (y)

The older Civics had 4x100 PCD - just like a Rover - so they're unlikely to fit. But that depends on just how old we're talking. Have a look here.

I get you, but Black Hole is a dye designed to cut away the edge of the scratches, (which is what you actually see). You need a glaze to fully treat them and level the paint, so it seems you got the proper effect! Glad to hear it all worked for you.

I have no doubt someone is going to throw shade at me for this, but there is simply nothing more mesmerizing than a black car after detailing. :D

I totally agree - to get that mirror shine is so satisfying and gives such a great sense of achievement , well worth the effort (y)
