Anyone know if the identification plate attached to the strut housing is only found on Australian cougars or would any cougar leaving the country have these on?

thanks

the colour is non-UK spec too I note, assuming the photo is the actual car not a stock photo from the web

If one of ours did do you reckon it would be an import or just never made it abroad.

More likely to be a non UK import. All the cars were built in the states. If the car is on the UK, and UK registered you can cross reference the registration date with the build date. You can also check for import markers on HPI etc.

Not necessarily. It'll may only give original date of registration in the UK. This can make cars younger than they are. Some years ago if you brought a car in from Jersey for example, say 3 years old, it would have been registered here as new. Sometimes imports appear in a similar manner unless the import market has been flagged prior to registration. Not always the case though.

Thats not the car in question.. Although that one is very far from uk spec colour too :)

Whoever that car in the OP picture belongs to, it's RHD judging by the wipers. Since we never got that colour over here (I thought it was US and Europe only?) I can only assume it is actually Australian?

:EDIT: Or a very thorough respray of a UK-spec car?

Since there are several red Cougars that were registered in the UK, it could be that the car was destined for elsewhere but ended up here. There are both Laser Red ones and Rio Red ones also even one on the 15" alloys that were fitted as stock in the US and it's also an auto Zetec which definitely wasn't a UK option lol.

I had absolutely no idea. Thanks for that!

Ugh. I've just imagined what an auto Zetec would be like in the Cougar. :cautious:

I dunno I had a 20L auto Mondy, wasn't too bad at all, cruise control was gooood!

LOL I knew that post was coming, I just didn't know from where.

Don't get me wrong, I've driven a 2.0L auto Mondy before, 4-up and cargo, and it was perfectly fine. I just meant that I expect more from a Cougar.

20L Mondeo?? Don't let Paul Procomm see that!!

I know you meant 2L. Yeah there were in fact quite a few red ones that ended up here. Most of them up north. I visited a breakers up north for a gearbox a few year ago and they had 3 laser red ones in their yard being broken. They said it had been a popular colour for the Cougar

Thanks, Should the build date be the same as registration date a car built September 99 and UK registered in March 2000.

Not necessarily Sam. There are always cars that sit around on compounds for years sometimes before they're registered. That's why there are C1's on a 51 and 02 plate. If it was built in 99 an registered in 2000 chances are it was destined for elsewhere but ended up on a UK shipment. As it would have been too costly to reship the car elsewhere they would have sold it as a "Dealer Exclusive/Special". You can always find out where the car was registered new and if you have any paperwork, locate the original dealer and just ask if they can tell if they registered the car new.
